etest help asap!!

i have a 91 dx with a jdm b16 swap and it wont pass the etest. i would just pay the 450 for the automatic pass but im putting the car under my name and u cant do that for getting it plated, it must pass etest. i have done new exhaust/cat/o2 and still no luck...my readings are really high. i cant go without a vehicle and my last temp plate expires on Aug 2nd. should i start looking for a place that does fake etest? lol

chris_si98 26-Jul-2006 11:42 AM

go for a hotrod test. You have a swap.

Do a tune-up.. check for vac. leaks, etc.

Double_B 26-Jul-2006 12:00 PM

You know what you need to do, and asking about fake e-test on here is a no no:tsk:

kick his ass brian!

zeeman 26-Jul-2006 12:37 PM

it won't be run as a hot rod b/c technically the SI came with a 1.6L. You're engine has to be of larger displacement than any engine offered in any model of that year.

chris_si98 26-Jul-2006 12:39 PM

^^ really?

i thought it was if you had any engine that was of a higher performance.

imported_ontariorider 26-Jul-2006 06:01 PM

thanks for the replies guys, the car went in for a full tune up and a once over everything today...it's going in for another test tomorrow morning. i wil let everyone know how it does. thanks

post up your results

FIRST TEST
ASM2525 CURB IDLE
limit reading limit reading
HC PPM 66 262 200 451
CO% 0.37 4.51 1.00 2.47
NOppm 757 1538 n/a n/a

SECOND TEST
HC PPM 66 272 200 402
CO% 0.37 6.36 1.00 4.11
NO ppm 757 490 n/a n/a

the first test was stock the way it came, had 2.5" exhaust and a dummy cat. second test was with a new "used"stock exhaust/cat and o2..tomorrow the car is going back with a new o2 and a new cat and full tune up. my mechanic said that my computer isnt reading the o2 or cat properly..??...and that's what might cause it to fail. should i go to say tektonic and get them to flash my ecu and make sure everything is working proper? and what fuel pressure should i run the b16 at? little lower like 25-30psi? compression was 210 across aswell.
thanks guys

imported_Nanase 26-Jul-2006 08:09 PM

you are running way to rich. As chris said, check for vacuum leaks. Yes, reflashing the ECU will help.

zeeman 26-Jul-2006 08:25 PM

don't count on chipping the ecu to make it pass. The fuel pressure should be 45psi with the vacuum line off the top of the regulator. B16s are polluters i guess, b/c i know lots of people who's b16 swapped cars won't pass an e-test.

Make sure to have a clean air filter, well working pcv valve, fresh oil change, working cat, good spark plugs/wires and go for a good 20 minute run on the highway right before doing the test.

89SIHATCH? 26-Jul-2006 10:24 PM

he said he has a dx which is a 1.5l not a 1.6l, so yes this can be tested as a hot rod.

and also what ever you do DO NOT PUT IN HIGHER OCTANE FUEL! run just regular, like andrew posted above run over those things, and also check / clean the connections on the dizzy.

hope you have better luck also with testing it as a hotrod should help a bit with the limits

good luck

imported_ontariorider 27-Jul-2006 06:26 AM

it's a b16 so i always fill it with 94...and how do u go about getting it tested as a hotrod? i also dont want my insurance company to find out i have a swap done, and they test it as a 1.6 si aswell.

thanks steve, appreciate any help i can get!!!

Check your timing.

You can replace every damn thing you want, but if your timing is off, you will fail.

A hotrod test can only be done IF the engine that is in the car never existed in that car generation, regardless of cx,dx,si. It's based on displacement. IE - 1.6L came in the Si, regardless of DOHC or SOHC, it is not a hotrod.

The only time hotrod test is doable in a civic is when it swapped with a b18 or bigger. My old H22 Civic was done as a hotrod.

Dominik 27-Jul-2006 12:15 PM

The problem with testing it as a hot rod is the fact that your insurance company can get ahold of that test; they most likely will.
Darah, I pm'ed you. I can help you out.

Word, this is about the only thing i remember from my ontario drive clean class i took a few years ago.

imported_Moe_Mentum 27-Jul-2006 02:40 PM

If the engine is tuned properly and you have a working cat it should pass. I have a JDM b16 and I just went for an E-test last week. I was worried because 2 years ago when I first got it tested I barely passed the HC section. But this year my car actually did better! However the HC barely passed yet again. What I normally do is change the oil, plugs, check timing, change air filter, and drive like I stole it before the test. My cat was also changed a week before the test, but only since mine had a hole in it.

imported_ontariorider 27-Jul-2006 06:52 PM

well, this is weird. i got the tune up and oil change, new cat, new o2 and got my timing set proper. the car runs perfect. but this test was worse then the previous two.

LIMIT READING LIMIT READING
HC ppm 66 423 200 449
CO% 0.37 9.92 1.00 6.11
no PPM 757 270 N/A N/A

now i didnt have my hopes up for a pass but i expected the readings to atleast go down a bit. i think it must be something weird with my computer. i also left the fule pressure at 40psi, the other two tests i turned it down a bit.
