Ep3 - K20A2 Swap?

Ep3 SiR's use K20's

How much would it cost to swap a K20A2 (Type-S) into the Ep3's?
Would it be like a regular B- B series

or would it be just as much hassle as swapping a k20a2 into an EK.

I'm thinking it would be a direct swap Minus ECU


Any ideas would be nice Thanks

well it might seem like it's a direct swap but there are couple minor changes


- power steering pump and ac compressor need to be either removed or modified to fit in the engine bay

- type s throttle cable

- need to fabricate exhaust because i believe it's longer with type s cat?

- reprogram ecu

- modify shift assembly due to presence of 6th gear in the position of reverse

anybody know labor charger?

the price for the motor is 2500 now a days
but usually labor is the pricey part of these swaps.

Also ep3's run 1/4 mile time of about 15.3 stock
With the Type-S what kind of numbers should you expect out of the car?

EP3 is about 400 lbs heavier then the 96 Ek hatch

damn bro $2500 for a k20a2/tranny complete???if yes thats dirt cheap...

i don't know if thats with tranny i didn't remember that but i've seen a few K20a2's for 2500 if not 3000

What makes them an expensive swap is everything else you need with them, headers alone are like a gino.

Is it worth it though? I mean, how heavy is an ep3? The way I see it, you may as well just get an RSX... Nobody asked me though.

I think for the time and effort involved, its not really worth it for an extra 40hp. It might be wiser to spend the $$$ and turbo or S/C the motor in the car.

how can you compare un-reliable boost to an N/A k20a2 set-up?

Do the swap.. you'll love it. Then when you have more money, start doing bolt-ons.

40 more hp for 2500 dollars is money well spent imo.
and lets not forget if you decide to modify the motor its a better base to start off with.

Just typing out of my a$$. It just seems like alot of work for a motor that is more or less them same. Kinda like swapping a K24 into my car.

thats what i was thinking in my head,
I just want to know what kind of numbers on 1/4 mile will i put down on it. I looked up the curb weight and all.

Downsides to ep3 hatch was that model of the civic depreicated the most cause it wasn't very popular.

Swapping the K20a2 into the Ep3 Hatch is like an EM2 with a K20-A2 , from what i've seen the BTN K20 EM2 running AEM standalone was a quick *** car. SUPPSODLY ran high 12's (12.8 or 12.9) i just saw in in person and saw it pull a few gears.



I just had this idea because i daily drive alot and the ep3 has all the options (pw,p/l, sunroof, a/c, cruise ) etc that most EKs with modifications dont' have and with the K20 platform already in the car i could get more power without loosing alot of certain things.

Like someone mentioned above power steeering might be removed but i'm used to that alreayd so its not a biggie on that part

I know what you mean but you gotta remember your K20 is 197 hp vs my K20 at 160 (i belive same as RSX Premium motor)

Yours has more potential on boltons already
while K20's aren't so expensive right now to swap in , instant 40 hp, + some bolt ons would put out a nice whp #.

I just sacrifice a little weihgt with some luxury options that i SO SO SO miss vs my ek ( mainly power mirrors, sunroof, and windows)

I want a K20A2 in my EP3 too.. arg.. but it's hard to find a good low km used Type S motor that includes EVERYTHING for a swap.. I dun't want to find a blown up A2 motor, or high mileage motor also...

wondering if my A3 motor will worth anything.. if i try to sell it when i do a direct swap A2 into my Ep3! :-)

been searching for an A2 motor fora while.. no luck.. u have an A2 ready to be swapped in "xplizitremix"???
