Eninge making bad idle sound and tranny problem

Well my car is now making a weird noise. Its a 93 civic dx hb. My problem is at idle and when I'm not on the gas my car sounds very loud and like a diseal motor. At idles at 500rpm or less, never stays consitant. The other problem I have is my tanny. I have no problem with it only regular daily driving but say I want to slam it into gear well I can't. Lets use 1st gear to 2nd as the example. When I try to slam it into 2nd it gets caught up half way on something, if I rip it it will grind. I thought maybe it was just me, but all my friends test drove it and they cannot slam it into gear either. But if I'm not moving I can slam it not problem. I don't know what's going on.

I think its time for a new motor, but I just wanted to know if anyone can help.

Ken

No

No, I do not have a short shifter, I just went out and tried again, from 1st to 2nd if I ram it really fast and hard it goes in one smooth motion but it grinds.

How many KM's on the car???

Original owner???

Can you afford a swap???

New "used" tranny for that guy is about $1000 to $1400 installed...

There's another "reason"...

The idling sounds like you just need to adjust it a bit since it idles at 500. Should be around 750. As for it sounding like a deisel engine...hmmm? Not sure...do you get the check engine light?

As for the tranny, it does sound like your synchro is shot.

I could be wrong though.
