Engine upgrades for D-series banger? (non-VTEC)

Hey fellas, all basic bolt-ons aside, what can i look into to tweak my whimpering D16y7 engine? I know that substantial gains are hard to acheive with this platform, but i'm looking into any/all possiblities. Problem is, I don't know too much about engines... I'd like to know what you guys think!

you could throw on a d16z6 or d16y8 head... it would bump you up to 125-130 ish hp

well basically there is no real "free tweak" mods adn any bolton's will gain minimal hp gains (barely noticeable)...the only way to make any real hp for a decent price is to

slap a sohc vtec head on it and add i/h/e (thats liek 130 hp )

then there are nitrious (only good for short burst's of hp liek 50)

then a custom turbo kit or a naem brand liek greddy kit (the best option but expensive..like 4-5000 for a greddy and about 2-3 for a custom peiced together by you with good fuel control mods)

basically all these mods will make the reliability go away....I'd say jsut get rid of that motor and swap in a d15b (130hp stock) and a si tranny for better gearing (1-2000 for that setup installed) then go from there...yoru platform now only has a hope of turbo charging to wake it up

the D16Y7 is a hella fun motor to play with. boost or N/A, it loves it all! but you already admitted you don't know much, so the first area of 'modification' should be your knowledge base.

I should slap you for your question

gude, bullfrog, zex, and crower come to mind immediately. I wouldn't be shocked if Edelbrock/JG had an application as well. Leitner also has a supplier.

Often overlooked. P&P your head will help greatly.
That's assuming you want to keep that motor and run no boost.

if you do a mini me swap then you might have too go obd1 since d16y7 don't have knock sensors... i did it on my d16y7 its worth it...
