Engine swaps

Alright so I own a plain old 1996 Civic DX 2 dr and I am planning on swaping in a new engine. I am looking at putting an H22A1 in it. I was wondering if anyone has any info on the swap or possibly experience. I would like to know what is needed other than mounts and what possible problems I might run into. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Best bang for your buck swap if you want to go fast...

you will need:

H22 Motor and tranny, ECU
EK Mount Kit
Custom Axles
ECU conversion harness
Shift linkage (cables)and shifter box
Additional rewireing

darkblade I'd check with preludeking (Eric at Teknotik) and check out his prices on the h22a.

But he pretty much summed up what you need.

Teknotik was where I was going to get the engine from. As far as why I want the H22A1, my buddy has a 1997 prelude type sh and he really hit me onto that engine. I want to give my car something that is unique...well something that isn't done all the time. I think that the B16 and B18 are amazing engines but that it has been done alot. The K20 was another engine I was looking at but seems a little out of my price range.

Every1 get's the fever of thinking I can't wait BUY BUY BUY!!!

I did the same thing... If I didn't listen I would of just ended up wasting money.....

Save up for what you want... I would rather have a k20 in my civic then an H22... K20's in civics is rare.... h22 not as rare

go with the K20..... Ontop of that u can beat both b-h series lol

ur choice

go with k20 if you want to be unique and different and have deep pockets. But in a year or so a lot more people will have k-swaps.

I wouldn't spend that amount of money on a swap, no matter how unique it is

For a JDM (even usdm) K20 installed properly your looking at atleast double the price of H22.

I agree that its (the K) an amzing engine and lots of potential, but at this point in time untill they are more available and the aftermarket develops more for them is just not an affordable swap for many people these days. Its not like a H or B series where everything just goes together like lego..there are a lot of additional costs that most people dont realize and not many options for ecu to controll it all.

Here is four factors to answer first:

1. Whats your budget
2. What is your needs (power/performance wise)
3. If any...Future plans for the motor (turbo, NA, B20/LS Build..)?
4. Is drivability/reliability/ gas milage important to you?

my budget is $4000 - $5000
I dont really have any needs
I would like to turbo it down the road (way down the road...but thats still up in the air, might just leave it NA)
and gas milage isnt really an issue I would like it to be drivable and reliable though

which k series? rsx type s motor or ep motor...does the swap include all hardware or just the engine itself? or $6000 complete car running and all!!! you cant beat that price!!!!!

i have a jdm h22 on my 98 civic cx.... i love it...your budget will be enough to do this swap....but let me warn you!!!! if you do this swap you'll have to lose a/c and p/s, you can put it no problem, but its better without it...you have to cut a hole for your cable shifter(which means its hard to put a hydro tranny again), for sure you have to work on your suspension,it will be heavy in the front so you will need stiff springs,if your planning to go long driving you have to upgrade your radiator(stock civic is just too small), and you might want to get stage 1 axle just to be on the safe side, better engine mounts to keep the vibration down, and your exhaust(you need to get a customise exhaust), but after all this you'll be happy.... you dont have to down shift when merging into a lane or the hwy....all in all you'll have fun driving, you'll really feel how light your car is with this engine!

man, you'll never get something 40 other people don't already have....unless your takin a bmw m3 engine and doing a rear wheel drive conversion into a civic.
B-series' are great b/c they're plug and play and with a little modding can make tonnes of power.
If you're going to go K-series go big or go home K24 with rsx type S head....but thats just stupid money and not realistic with anything under $10,000.
