Engine Swapping! HELP!!!

Hi, i'm looking for some advice about engine swapping.

today i went to an auto shop in Scarborough (Toronto), where i got an estimate of $1300.00 to swap the engine in my 93 civic cx hatch.

the new engine has around 60-80k of mileage as i was told. i believe its an SOHC VTEC ZC 130hp engine, which bolts on like stock as i was told. The $1300.00 basically covers the engine and labour for dropping it in. Thats all I can remember. But i was thinking of putting in a B16A or a B17A into my civic instead, its just that i'm not sure of how complicated it'll get with going to those other choices. I guess my question is, will B16s or even a B17 bolt onto my civic as easily as the SOHC Vtec ZC, and how much more would they cost? Also, is SOHC VTEC ZC 130 hp engine worth it for $1300 which includes the labour for swapping it into my car?

Complete Info of Engine (as told by mechanic from shop):
- SOHC VTEC ZC
- 130 hp
- 1.6 litres
- Mileage: 60 - 80 k
- Price for Engine and Labour together: $1300.00

Ok, i hope someone could help me out here... yep, jus a simple noob needing some answers, hehe.

thanks, any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i have seen LS motor swaps on here for 1400 installed... and thats DOHC 140+hp and loads more torque than a zc...

i think that 1300 is expensive for that swap, because the motors are like $300 on their own anyway.

that's what i thought too... was thinkin it was a little too pricey for the type of motor i'm gettin.

when u seen the ls motor done for $1400, wat car was it done on? cuz i'm not sure if it costs more to install ls or gsr motors on some cars than others, like civics over integras? cuz of the way they have to modify everything on civics if they put on a DOHC in there

60-80K on the motor:haha: yeah right.. tell them to compression test and leakdown test it infront of your face and see what they say.

a b-series swap is a bit more complicated then a zc but its not too hard. you just need to pick up linkage, axles, halfshaft, tranny, starter, alternator, 2 mounts, possibly the throttle cable off an integra, ecu, engine and tranny, then your set.

For $1300 there is no way you will buy a b-series (in good shape) and get it installed. I would suggest getting a backyard mechanic to swap in your motor for like 400-500$ that way you save a few more bucks and can spend that towards your motor. If you buy a motor, get it compression tested before purchase or else you might be buying a dud.. over time when a motor sits the seals could dry out and be garbage

thanks for the advice, i never knew to ask to compression test and leakdown test the engine.

i asked a friend of mine, who's very knowledgable about cars as well and could possibly get me a good deal on a B16 or B17.

how much do you guys think it would cost to actually put it in a B16 or B17 on a civic hatch 93? i mean the whole engine plus installation

install can range from 400-1000$ depending on if its a backyard mechanic or a professional shop.
