Engine swap woes.

Today I swapped a B18B1 into my 92 hatch.

I used the integra shifter linkages, but swaped over the civic shifter. I found that the base of the shifter, the part where the bolt passes through, it was narrower. This made me also have to bend in the tabs of the linkage to accomadate this difference.

I notice too that one of the linkages, the one that doesnt move, is also not completely aligned with the cylinder it slides onto. Its close, mabye 90%, but not 100% as smooth as honda and acurace parts usually come together with.

Now my car's shifter is very far forward, and I dont like that. I can almost touch the deck when I hit third.

Should I have used the integra shifter? I thought I was doing the right thing by using the civic one?

thanks fellas.

maybe the shifter is in backwards? just a thought?

Congradulations, you got it in...

Dented DX might be right.. cause they are suppose to work together... And it does seem rather far forward for OEM shifter.

Your probably right

It must be in facing the wrong way... I ran my hand along it on the boots top side and it felt like that... stupid me.

Ken, you were right about the axle that poped out! Genius.

I retained my stock civic shifter. But, the base of the shifter : seen here,

there is a gap since the integra's shifter linkage is maybe 8 mm wider. I squished the metal down by tying the bolt hard enough to bend the tabs in. Is this typical?

Some say (like B&M) to do this: (put washers in the gaps)

What shifter do you think I should use? Civic, Integra or aftermarket? I fear the integra shifter will face too far back, because of its weird curve.

Short shifter worry: I don't want to feel like a monkey reaching so low to change gears!

Hey, if this is the only problem you have to worry about when completing a swap...count yourself lucky!!

I say use the shifter that matches the moter, it might have a better fit in the linkage.
