Engine Swap-VTECH

i have a 97 honda civic cx with a D16Y7 1.6 16V SOHC motor and am looking to do a swap, if i were to put in a 2000 1.6L SOHC Vtech Motor would i run into any problems? and if there will need to be modifications what would they be?

thx

i would skip the 900 MHz generation of VTECHs and go straight for the 5.4 GHz VTECH. VTECH cordless phones are not exactly top end though, go for panasonic or sony.

if however you are refering to the d16y8 VTEC motor, it just drops right in, you will also need the appropriate ecu, as well as wire up the vtec solenoid

i was assuming you would get a complete engine with an intake manifold..

the y7 intake manifold will choke up your top end, dont use it with the y8 engine.

but other than that most parts are interchangable

u can switch auto to 5 speed, just a bit of extra work. the swap could range from 2500-3500 im thinking if u get a shop to do it

But seriously, if you're gonna swap, pass on any SOHC and go dual. If you're gonna swap in another SOHC, then might as well just use that money on a turbo setup.

for b16 DOHC expect to pay atleast 3Grand ... for a auto to tranny conversion its fairly pricey, and from the work I've seen it can get pretty messy and costly (There are lots of little things that you'll have to pay for) unless u have good money flow I wouldn't do a auto to manual swap
