Engine is shaking!

alright my stock d16 is shaking. It feels like the car is going to stall. Its like this while the car is running. This shaking happen suddenly the other day on the high way. It also feels like i lost some power on the throttle, it doesn't go as fast as it use to.

Just wondering whats the problem. This engine has been pretty reliable. Is this just a case of old age? it has 240xxxkm

in alot of cases, engine shake is due to bad condition of engine mounts.

Check your spark plugs.

dead cylinder is also possible. Usually with a dead cylinder, the d16 can't really stay alive @ idle, but since you say ALMOST stall I'd leave that to last.

First check to see if you have spark and fuel entering all cylinders.. Once you've confirmed that, do a compression test to determine is a dead cylinder could be the problem.

probably needs a basic tune-up.

-plus
-wires
-dizzy?
-air filter
-fuel filter

etc...etc....

Remove each plug wire to take away the spark. See if the engine bogs down anymore. If you remove a plug wier and nothing seems to happen then you have a dead cylinder, could be a few things, bad injector, spark related, maybe a nice knick in the valve..

If the engines bogs down on each cyl. when you remove the wires then I would check your distributor next. Check for weak spark, if you have weak spark in every plug wire it's your ignition coil ( i have a spare one if you'd like).

Engine mounts could be broken maybe? Maybe idle to low?

i would start by checking for spark to all cyln. and try spraying down the wires and dist cap. look for arcing. or condensation in the cap. if it's all good you also might wanna try swaping the ign. coil with a known good coil. may times i have seen this symptom happen on hondas. most of the time it's ignition related. if ign sys checks out, you might have a sick motor.

I think he meant that one cyl. is dead .. i.e. bad injector or no spark.

Either way I don't think he knows what he's talking about, he would know if his engine was toast because of the smoking and oil burning.

If the motor is dead, the last you want to do is keep it going...

It's never fun to get stranded on the side of a highway.

Had a simular problem with my 93 DX. Idle got rough so I pulled all the wires, sure enough last wire did nothing. It only got worse after that until a JDM D15B took its place.

Oddly enough, slick 50 did help buy some time. Compression on the dead cylinder was like 75, after slick 50 it was 170 again for another 3 weeks or so. bought me an extra month and a half using Slick 50 every 2 weeks.

Compression test would confirm dead cylinder too as it did in my case, and the description of your problem is an aweful lot like mine was.

He said the engine is shaking so an engine mount could have been the problem. so could a missfire. i never said fixing the engine mount would cure the missfire im not an idiot thanks you very much.
