Engine Rebuilder Recommendations
 

Hey!

Any direction you can give me would be appreciated. I drive a stock 2000 SiR, which recently lost all compression to cylinder 4. One option I am looking into is to rebuild the engine, as I really hate to lose the car (my first car - you know).

I have searched the TCC forums, and contacted a few places including Mississauga Engines, for quotes, but I was hoping those of you that have had your engines rebuilt could share your stories, and even suggest other places I should contact.

what did u want done to it??? just basic back to stock?
b/c u can find ones in the forsale forums or even talk to our affiliates b/c you can purchase there engines if you have everything else...

what do u want to do to it? New Piston Rings? re-surface the cylinder walls? New Bearings? what

Is the engine knocking while u drive?

Best bet would be to get a motor, pop it in and completely re-build urs with the finest parts

Sorry, you're right, I should have made clear what I meant by rebuild. What I'm looking for from a rebuild is a fresh engine that I can "enjoy" for the next 5 years. In other words, changing anything that needs to be changed in order to make it bulletproof in stock form.

I am considering swapping in a used Japanese engine, but the cheapest I've seen a 2nd gen b16a (engine only) is $890 at Tiger, but not many people have anything good to say about Tiger, and other places, like Teknotic, cost about $1200.

Considering that a "stock rebuild" from Mississauga Engines is $2075, I am inclined to think that perhaps the extra money may be worth the peace of mind - I don't know.

have YOUR engine rebuilt, the last thing you want is another beaten engine of unknown history. take yours out and have it rebuilt. I really hope ppl in the area will come out and speak on their experiences.....

I wouldn't buy the cheapest engine I find.

After reading B's comment, I agree with him. Have yours rebuilt, that way you know it's been done and is a fresh motor.

Thanks guys, I think that rebuilding is the way to go. The hard part is deciding on a place now!

I wish I could do what 91Civic_Joe suggested, to avoid the downtime, but I don't have that kind of extra cash lying around.

naw man just buy a engine stand and everytime u get paid put money aside, save it up and then go nuts with ur parts man

even Carroll Shelby gives us Honda guys respect b/c he realizes that some of those who cant afford to pay money for someone to do it learn and did it themselves

Hey, I would love to try and rebuild the engine myself, but neither my friends nor I have much mechanical experience, so I think that the only thing I would learn is that I should leave rebuilding engines to experts.

Plus, I hate to admit it, but managing time is not one of my skills, as I still have not found the time to do the quarter round in my house for months!

What surprises me, is that while several people have endorsed Mississauga Engines in previous threads, no one has come forward to share their actual experience.

By the way, has anyone dealt with Canadian Cylinder Head Technologies? There is very little information on their website, or on google.

Canadian Cylinder Head is a good shop. Nothing bad to say about them, the owner (forget his name) is a very straight up guy and doesn't bull****. However, I'm not too sure if I would say he's the best. I've only heard good things about Gord Bush.. go to him, def.

I agree, Gord Bush performance IMO is the best out there.

since the b16 block is so cheap as is, id just pull it out and find another one for 350-200 and put yours to the side maybe rebuild it yourself if your mechanicaly inclined..

i agree with zeeman gord bush performance is were you wanna get your motor rebuilt.

do u know why u don't have any cr on number 4?
i ran in to the same thing and it ended up jsut being a broken retainer... no damege done just the one valve staed open just inoff to make no cr........??
