engine rebuild
would someone be kind enough to list all the parts i need to rebuild my sohc zc
planning on changing the head to dohc |
- piston rings
- timing belt - water pump - complete gasket set - new clutch |
no bearings and rear main seal kieran? oil pump?
|
meh, i figured you could finish the list buddy
|
depends if you wanted a complete rebuild or just the block. If you are going to do a complete rebuild you would also need valve seals, main bearings, rod bearings, new valve springs, retainers, valve seats, mill the head so its flat, hot tank everything, hone the cylinder walls, possibly bore the cylinders if they are out of spec.

do we have an affiliate for parts??
|
Parkway Honda is an affiliate so you know they got all the OEM goodies for you. 25% discount for members

jsut do a basic rebuild..rings hone cylinders, bearings oil pump everything hot tanked...then give the head a quick port and polish done simple...but serioulsy it's just a SOHC I mean go get a used jdm one for cheap unless you can do it all yoruself. and you can't put the DOHC head on that block so.....jsut go get a DOHC zc
|
i have the jdm sohc zc
|
^^that's great so is it dead or do you want to do a "performance" rebuild for more power..? and once again the DOHC zc head will not fit
|
i want to do a performance rebuild
is their a better head i could get?? |
sohc vtec head can be bolted on...but you need to do abit of research..it's called a mini me setup...I"m not sure if the sohc zc comes with the stock p29 I beleive pistons which are domed...the vtec head raises your compression ration considerably so reasearch needs to be done..
I'd say work on the zc head...give it a good port match and port and polish job to the intake and exhaust ports...get a regrind cam or crower cam get i/h/e and a afc to tune it... |
where can i get a port and polish??
|
can u have a vtec cam in a non vtec head

Not sure if this is really worth the money...
It looks like your goals for this motor is converting it to DOHC. But why would you waste so much money converting the head plus labour w and parts....when you can sell your motor for a couple hundred bucks and buy a DOHC ZC from a jap place for $500-$700 with tranny..or use your sohc tranny and bolt her up with stock shafts. IMO, I would grab the DOHC ZC and if you really want to perform a rebuild, then do it to that motor. gl |
are you planning for boost?
|
no
|
i looked up mini-me swap on google
which head it better y8 or z6 most sites said use a y8 the z6 is a hack job?? |
Y8 head has a different combustion chamber. It has less volume than the Z6 which will bump your compression slightly. By visual inspection the ports are the same and I can't say that there would be much difference in airflow. By the seat of your pants, the difference between the two heads is so minor it's essentially unnoticeable. If your doing a mini-me swap rebuilt the head, adding some performance goodies.
