with labour, replacing the head gasket is about a $800 job more or less. engine replacement with labour is about at least a grand depending on what engine you get. in either case, that's more money than the car is prolly worth in reality. (I know ppl sell older Civics for ridiculous amounts, but they are REALLY not worth that much). considering you can get a newer Civic, like a 97-99 for about $5-8 grand it's silly to invest a grand into an old turd.

I say fix the car. So you spend $1000. If it lasts you another 1.5-2yrs or more you've got your money's worth. It's still cheaper than dropping $5000+ on a newer car. It comes down to what the car is worth to you, not what others feel your car is worth to them.

If you really like your car that much just go for a swap, but i'm betting you don't have the money for that :notfair:

ya, that's cool if you wanna drive a rust bag for another 1.5-2 years. or you drop 7K to buy a decent newer car that won't rust for another 5-6 years and will be hella reliable. cuz if you keep this one and fix one thing, in the next year or two, 10 other things will need fixing. any car reaches a point of diinishing returns, where it simply isn't smart to fix them. Hondas have a lot of rust, so anything over 10 years old really isn't worth fixing.

^^Yep, you've got a point there.
But, hey we all look at things differently I suppose.
