engine question
another member of the club was enlightening me on the benefits of a b20 (non vtec) over a b16/b18. he was saying a b20 offers more torque and the same amount of horsepower at the same price or even less.
if you had the choice of a b20 or a b16/b18 which would you choose. this excludes a b18c5 because it cost too much.

B20
If you have plans of turbo, then I would stay away form the B20, it has thin piston walls and cant take that much boost. B20 would be great for all motor and put a VTEC head on it. B18 would be the best for turbo, price is not to bad on those either. I still havn't decided what engine to put in mine yet, but there will be some sort of bests under the hood come spring time!
Good luck

By piston walls do you mean the stock cylinder sleeves? If so the B20 has by far the thickest of any B-series Honda motor. Awesome for boost.
Thanks for the correction, it must of been the H engines I read about.

No, the B20 sleeves are week if you don't have the block resleeved.

My favourite quote form that article....
"If you dont believe they crack, your on crack"
LOL
Nice resource...
www.crvtec.com was good too but I can't seem to find it anymore...

I never said they were strong, i said they were thick, which allows for more surface area to be bored out ... bigger bore = higher displacement whis is good for boost. Resleeving is expensive, for most b20 applications a main bearing girdle and/or block guard, with ARP main studs and a balanced/blueprinted bottom should be enough. You can only expect so much from stock sleeves but the b20's arnet't as bad as that article suggests... notice how he doens't make any concrette points as to why they're weak.. only because he's seen several cracked... well you run enough boost/nitrous on any sleeves and they will crack eventually.

I'm staying away from L&B now. I dunno if it's a few isolated cases, but I've been hearing too many stories of people having problems with their work. When the time comes, I'll be sending my block to Golden Eagle and my head to Portflow.
