Engine problem

Hi everyone

I have a problem and hopefully I can get some inputs on this. I have an 88 hatch with 132000 km on it. I have new sparks plugs, fuel filter. My car was driving fine until today I was driving on the hwy and when I get to around 80- 90 km/h my whole car started to shake... my stick shift was shaking....when I ease off on the gas pedal it stop. The higher the speed pass (100 - 110 )the more shaking and the engine light came on at that time.....I know it is not the aligment or balance of the tires because I just had it done and I know the steering wheeling didn't shake. I am thinking something to do with a leak somewhere that affected the buring of air / fuel???? there are some symptoms that I would like to point out. 1) long increase in start up idle reving (up to 5 minutes) 2) some buring smell short duration........I will bring it to the shop tomorrow....but give your 2 cents

I think check your ECU if somehow it died or got water in it.

Check your IAC as well. I believe is the piece under the Throttle body.

Is the car giving you a huge decrease in power? Like it can only drive one gear?

Thanks for your input....

I will check the ecu and the IAC tomorrow as well.

I know where are you going with the loss in power question....are you thinking about clutch problem? I don't have loss of power in gear.

i had somewhat the same problem like i couldnt go past like 120km cause the car would like cut out like i hit a wall, then cut back in etc,...
it was my distributer.

see if a buddy has one laying around and try it out and take it for a boot see if it fixs your problem.

good luck.
