Engine problem
 
I was cruising in 4th gear at 80km and all of a sudden the engine began so cut out a bit, not totally but it felt like little nudges.... kind of felt like the clutch was slipping about 3-4 times quickly and then the engine light came on. i hope that crappy explaination makes sense. the engine never cut out it just 'slipped' and then the light came on. i have a D16Z6 in a 4th gen. it sounds as though you encountered a misfire. I'd start by checking the CEL code, then proceed accodrongly.

probably a stupid question.. i couldnt find a clear answer... where do i check the code. i understand how to read the flashes but where do i do this little paper slip trick to read the code? Thanks again.

well i figured out how to check the code... but i did not get a code when i shorted the circuit. is it because i have the d16z6?

well what computer are you running?? P28 with a conversion harness? cuz you'd have to figure it out. I run a OBD1 computer in an OBD2 car, but I just see all the codes on a laptop. so I'm not sure what setup you got and what would work for you. but if you look at a OBD1 ecu pinout, you can figure out the logic ground so as to ground it properly and get the code from it.

I wish I had your knowledge! I'm pretty sure i have my original ECU (KSR did the swap :mad: a few years ago) so I guess is OBD1. would you be able to simplify that explaination!!? Thanks

Well try this;

*If* you're using your STOCK '91 SI ecu, all you have to do is pull the carpet up on the passenger's side of the floor (grab it by the fire wall under the dash and pull towards you) and you'll see the ECU (where the passenger's feet would be);

The ECU is mounted on the floor of the car, and there's a small "window" on the case (kinda like the "eye" on a battery) then turn the key to the ON position and count the flashes from the red LED on the ECU case...

thta's if you're OBD0 ... or.......

Now, if you're using an OBD 1 P28 and a harness... humm... well try this; on the far right side of the glove box, look for a 2-pin blue connector, jump the 2 pins on the connector (paper clip; cotter pin etc etc) then turn the key to the ON position and see of the "check engine light" will flash and then count the codes;

(not sure 100% that'll work; depending on the jumper harness)

ok check under the carpet for the ECU and read the numbers on the sticker, that'll tell us what ECU u have. also... if you are not running a P28, then just exactly how is VTEC hooked up to work? I mean it can be done, it's just really ghetto.

I have VTEC hooked up with a switch on near the throttle cable. I changed the spark plugs and have had no problems since so i guess it was a misfire (the old plugs were in BAD shape!). I'll check the ECU later today and see what i find. I have that blue plug thing but when i jumped it there was no reading so i dont think its active, its just there... i'll let you know.. thanks again..
