engine problem.

on 4th and fifth gear if I press the pedal down too quick the revs go higher but the speed does not.. for example I'm travelling @ 120 last night and im in 5th gear and when I push the pedal down and I even try pumping it the speed wouldn't increase. I have been travelling at 140 over the last few months without problems and now my car wont go over 120.

any help is appreciated.

Factory warranty doens't cover it... if you purchased aftermarket insurance/warranty (usually Global Assurance), then most likely they will... you have to read your agreement and find out for sure (go in there ready to fight). But that was dumb... $1500 for the policy, and a clutch job is like $2-300 bux, and parts are not that expensive ('bout $400 for a clutch).

Yeah the aftermarket insurance cost me $2000. So I am thinking that they will cover it. I'll check it out when I get home.. hopefully it also covers the sensors on the timing belt.

he drives a 97 Si-G coupe. not always... at high speeds, the aerodynamic drag puts greater stress on the clutch to hold all the power of the engine, and about 120 km/h the engine is at 4000 rpm making about 90-100 horsepower. a glazed clutch will let go, cuz the power is too great for it, and th tires won't slip, so nothing else can let go except the clutch. he says the rpms increase w/o a corresponding increase in speed, which means the clutch let go.

sylver - is there a smell associated with this happening for extended high speed travel? also does it get worse at all if you keep doing it?

I remember killing a Contour V6 clutch, it stunk and it REALLY let go... like it stopped working, period. That was under heavy heavy abuse though... but yours is just worn I think.

I was trying to push it and it seemed to get a little worse so I guess its getting pretty badly worn.
