Engine Oil for 2002 SiR
The dealer tells me that I HAVE to use 10w-20 for my SiR.. at least till 100,000kms are up so I don't void warranty.. and that it HAS to be semi-synthetic and that I can only purchase this from them.. uhhh anyone else think this is kinda weird? isn't 10w-20 a bit thin??
b4 I used 0W-30 Motul Synthetic on my '93 Impreza and loved it... the service guy told me not to bother with full sythetic and that I MUST use that specific grade..... comments? |
Which dealer is this???
I think it ask for 10W-30. I just use full organic and change it every 3000-ish, still cheaper and a lot better then sythetic changed at 5000-ish |
Just look at your oil cap and use the recomended oil.
That's it that's all... |
Sounds like he's trying to squeeze more money from ya.
I'd check the owners manual and do what it says there. Let me guess they're charging more than $30 for an oil change? |

Let me guess they're charging more than $30 for an oil change? but I plan on changing the oil myself anyways.. but a buddy of mine told me I can get Motul semi-synthetic oil that's 10W-20.. which is what the dealership carries and recommends... actually the service guy insisits... but ya.. they would be charging over $30 per oil change... but that's regular for most dealerships.... |
Dude... just use the oil recomended by the owner's manual. Stick to one type of oil or you will mess up your engine. Also use a Honda filter (ALWAYS)
Its that simple... |
genuine honda oil is a semi synthetic...... so the service advisor is prolly telling you to use that...... so that you're always using honda oil
|
well Motul makes semi-synthetic oil too.. so I dunno..
I'm too lazy right now to check with the manual :) but I guess I'll use whatever it says in there |
My dad used to pay close to $100/oil change for his VW for the first 80K. It takes a special weight of fully synth oil, plus the filter is a non-cartridge filter (basically looks like an air filter... there is no metal housing around it)... so that's why it is so expensive.
As for your question, use what the manual says to use. |
