Engine Mount Bushing Question
 

A bit stuck on this issue. I've been wanting to replace some of the engine mount bushings on my car since shifting has become annoying and jerky. I know for a fact that the mount on the driver side which is visible from the wheel well is gone, so I figured I mine as well replace them all with Urethane ones. Anyways my question is; since I have a b16 swap and I know that a few of the mounts were switched from the EK sedan ones to certain other mounts of an SIR or Del Sol.... Is it still possible to buy a bushing kit that will fit my mounts? Or would I have to buy seperate bushings for each mount since all of them aren't for an EK sedan.

you could "make" the mounts? i did it on my old car... its cheap... it works... but its not pretty... just buy some window weld or the urethane they use to seal your windshield :thumbup:

I have the actual mounts... just that the actual rubber bushings inside the mounts are shot... Or can you not just replace the bushings? Do you have to replace the whole mount?

I changed the mounts on my protege but my car still vibrates..
before completely ruling out the mounts.. are the bushings seperate and what else that is related to the mounts could be causing my problem.. ?

Just did my B16 swap 2wks ago so I can tell you this:
The trans, rear and left engine mounts themselves are the same EK mounts used w/the D series motors. It's just the brackets used that are different.
So to answer your question: Yes order the mounts for an EK.
The eng/trans stiffeners are also the same if I remember correctly.
Why spend the money when the winshield urethane does the job perfect? I did all of them w/one tube for a total of $12

or do it PROPERLY and buy new engine mounts THEN fill them with windoweld.. you will basically have urathane mounts since thats what 3m window weld really is...
but you may experience more vibration inside the vehicle with stiffer mount.. but shifts will be less sloppy!!!! you will also have less wheel hop!

Excellent SOHCnotec you answered my question perfectly. Your right I remember it being just the brackets and not the mounts. I guess I'm pretty noob cause I haven't heard of the Winshield Urethane. What exactly will it do? Does it just fill up the damaged mount with Urethane? Very interested to know

Window weld will not fix broken urethane, it simply fills up the voids inside the engine mount so the actual metal tube (where the bolt connect the engine to) will move less, so in a sense, you lose less hp via drivetrain.

If you are going to buy brand new engine mounts from Honda, then you might as well buy Hasport, like I did.

If the urethane isn't shot, then get the Energy Suspension inserts, fill up the voids with window weld then press the inserts in. Tie them up with supplied zip ties (I think that's what they are) then give it a good 48 hours to cure. Then you can simply cut away the excess window welds from the edges and reinstall.

how much of a difference does it make using the window weld with the ES inserts? seeing as i have my engine out right now im thinking of getting the ES inserts but i thought they replaced the whole inside of the mount and didnt just fill up the void.

they just fill up the void, you use the urethane in a tube stuff to fill whats left and to stick em together

Using window weld wasn't intended from ES, that was a whole separate thing on its own. Some people just suggested to put these 2 together.

I don't know how much difference ES insert + window weld will make, but I know mine is rock solid.

I was reasearching on the ES inserts, and the the site claims that it can even fix broken or work mounts. I know it won't actually fix the broken rubber, you'll just be putting the inserts around the torn mount but do you think I should really gets all new mounts just in case? Does anyone have any experience putting the ES inserts on worn mounts? In any case I'll look into the Hasport mounts, from what I can remember they are pretty costly.

Also what exactly do the zip ties do? do the just hold the two sides of the inserts together or something?

I believe the zip ties do exactly that, hold the pieces together.

A lot of myths on these things, i.e. they fall out, crack, everything rattles, this and that. I have done research before I bought Hasport and driving is believing. A lot of stuff you read just goes with a grain of salt, I am sure you know that.

But I do believe that as much I love ES stuff (I do use some of their products, no complains), for engine mounts, I choose Hasport.

charles did you look at the avid racing mount kit? Although i dont think they make a D series app. there kit is like $550 for a 5 piece mount kit which replace the tranny upper mount, rear tranny mount, drivers side engine mount, drivers side engine bracket and upper tranny bracket.

i stiffened all 5 mounts on my old car for $52 :thumbup:

Never heard of Avid Racing.

Too bad Hasport doesn't make front torque mounts, but JimFab is quality stuff as well. I am happy with the combo.

im thinking do ES inserts on the torque mounts with window weld, then grab the Avid racing mount kit down the road and essentially ill have replaced or upgraded all the engine mounts on the car.

Avid Racing mounts looks like stock mounts with urethane bushings inside. The price isn't too far off from the Hasport ones. If you are these far to dish out the cash for them, then extra 100 bucks won't hurt.

I believe one piece aluminum piece is stronger than welded ones. Hasport gets my vote. That sh!t is rock solid hard.

Alright I just noticed that there are different mount inserts for a non SIR and SIR car. so if sohcnotec is correct I should still be getting the mounts for the non SIR even though I have a b16 swap?
