Engine inspection
im purchasing a b16a1 from a guy i met on tcc. its going for a pretty damn cheap pice...900bucks with everything tranny ecu wire harness etc. but no distributor...heres the dirt, its been lying around for a while, the car its been in last was crashed and the distributor cap broke, thats why it doesnt come with one...what are somethings i can look for or do to inspect this engine to make sure its still good and wont encounterany problems...

He's lying.
He probably sold the dizzy. A dizzy cap is like $20, a used one is like $2. And I can't see how only the dizzy cap would crack.
Leakdown, compression is probably the best method, except that they are suppose to done when the motor is at O/T so it won't be that accurate.
Put the tranny on, starter, give power to the starter

forreal...i was wondering the same thing, hwo can u manage to hit the car so that ONLY the distributor cap cracks...well he was also selling the sort of damaged exhaust manifold so i guess that damaged too. i asked him if he could do a compression test but hes said he cant do it cause its not in any car

id like to take the valve cover off and inspect the cams for any wear and see what kind of condition the motor is in. also like to drain the oil check for metal flakes.
But giving the power to starter and doing a compression test is the best method
