engine gone, swap time
ok, so my engine is gone... i think, so its swap time... i have like 4500 cash on me now and was wondering what you guys would recommend and i am looking to do this within the next couple days... I was just going to put a d16y8 in (I have a 96 hatch cx), but for the money i was thinking b16a2 with the LSD tranny. I was going to get it and build it all motor with cam shafts, cam gears and well a whole bunch of other things... visit the machine shop, etc... but, is this a pretty strong platform for a hatch?
Also, the b16a2 is a jdm engine, how, or does it compare to the 99-00 usdm sir engine? Also, can I change my gauge cluster to a usdm sir one with the b16a2? |
first off, I would do your research first. Call Defcon or Teknotiks and ask questions about the engine, or even do a search on this board. If all that you want to do listed in your post, save up some more money if you want this done right the first time.
B16A2 has a bit higher compression than the USDM USDM=SI Cluster CDN=SIR Cluster You don't need to change it, but it would be nice to have. There are lots of guys selling SIR clusters on the board. If you're engine is gone, then getting a B series engine if you have the funds is the way to go imo. That is what I did when my piston rings went. I have a coupe and it runs mint. In a hatch it will be that much better. |
JDM engine don't have numbers behind it. It is B16A, that's it. If you are getting a B16A2, then it is USDM.

alright, cool... yeah i talked to the guys t teknotiks and they set up a packge for me... so i am going to do,
jdm b16 full swap with the lsd tranny and get the ecu chipped from them too. That will be sick. I am thinking I'll be beyond happy with that... what do you guys think? also, later will be cam shafts and cam gears so i can get a little more power at the higher rpms (i assume if a chipped ecu say has a redline off 9200 the stock cam shatfts will only be making power up to 8000 or whatever it is... i assume some camshafts that broaden my power curve would be ideal if i am looking to rev to 9000, 9200 hopefully... )... any input? |

Believe me, you may change your mind at least 10 times before you decide exactly what you want to do |

Cool, thanks for the confirm~
 |
with a 4500$ budget, id grab a usdm type r motor and have it put into my car. you can find the type r motor for 3500-4500 and you are looking at another 500-600 to swap it in.
|
or get a usdm gsr.....sending $4500 on a b16 is a waist of money
|
well, if they are going to do it for 4300 with an LSD tranny and a chipped ecu, it sounds good to me... as well i get new axles and a warranty... plus, i've had a great experience with teknotiks before so i wouldn't hesitate to go to them for something else.

buy it from teknotik you won't be disapointed

4300 for a b16 swap with lsd?! at least get the gsr swap then man. 4300 for a b16 is just nuts.

Should look like this: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...63_19_full.jpg |
Originally posted by hdave ^yep spend ur moiney wisely, look around everywhere and then get a swap Each and every engine is unique according to its condition and mileage. If you purchase a used car with low mileage, no history of accidents, full service records, and no dents or bumps, it will definitely cost much more than a comparable used car with higher mileage, a history of accidents, and a damaged body. The truth of the matter is, the engine's quality are strictly dependent on where the engines are purchased in Japan and the price paid for them. Like used cars, used JDM engines vary greatly in pricing. Higher mileage, poor condition engines, and engines removed from vehicles in accidents cost a lot less. As far as what we provide, Teknotik pays a higher price in Japan for better quality engines, because we know our customers don't want to save a few bucks for a higher mileage or damaged engine. At the end of the day, that higher costs is passed on to our customers, but you get a better quality engine. |

Sure im if you call around over the phone you will get a cheaper price if you ask for a "b16 installed"...buts lets compare apples to apples...this is not just the price of the motor thrown in the car... - NEW axels (not used) - Timing Belt and Water Pump Provided and Installed (OEM Honda) - All new fluids - New mount (not used) - All labour - Chipped ECU (upgraded chip free by request) - Conversion harness - Warranty! |
teknotik is a good place because of the warranty. they offer peace of mind!
|
also, you said you think you might need an engine, find out first if it can be fixed for cheap so you wont have to dish out so much for a swap!
