the last gsr i saw that was a little weak (burning oil) blew up after about 3 weeks of 7psi with 440s and a solid crome tune. It had decent compression too, just as soon as he started boostin it started puffin the blues big time. Then it popped and had horrible compression and ran like poo. The comp test results were 120, 210, 90, 100 after 3 weeks of 7psi.

But every engine is different.

if you want to only run 5 psi on a big (or even moderately big) turbo you will want to run a larger diameter wastegate. Big turbos and small wastegates don't like 5psi.

If you've got the cash to boost your engine, make sure you've got the cash to fix stuff when it brakes and do the necessary upgrades to your tires/brakes/clutch/suspension/etc.
i know, thats why i have omni power coils, brand new tires on it now, exedy stage 1 clutch, and new brake pads going on in a few days.....i am not going to be ripping it at like 180 and then slam on the brakes btw so i don't think there is a need for me to get upgraded rotors and crap cuz either way i gotta follow the speed limit until the highway...lol....then who brakes on the highway?

stage 1 clutch?....better than stock i suppose, but i would get something with a stronger pressure plate and better friction material.
You never know, you could be rippin one day and need to slam on the brakes, its better to be safe than sorry. With a boosted car you'll be speeding way more often than a slow car, thus increasing the chance of something happening.

^^ apparantly it can hold 100 hp over stock and it was significantly cheaper than a stage 2 so i decided to go for that instead and if it ends up frying, well, i'll be pissed once everythings installed......i am just kinda worried now about this cuz, like the engine really doesn't burn any oil now, like driving every day for quite a while, i just have to put in maybe a lil less than half a liter every month and a bit. but will a turbo do that to the engine in most cases with a lil bit lower compression? by do that i mean burn tons more oil and just blow up?

single cams require very little ignition timing in boost (not a widely known fact), without a sufficient ignition timing retard any engine will detonate alot.
But he has a b18b. So thats the least of his worries. LS's are great engines to boost IMO.

I have a centerforce dual friction clutch in my turbo'd cavalier...but the huge torque from the boosted V6 has proven to be a bit much for it on several occasions....It is hanging in there though...Have to be carefull, I don't have the money for a crazy clutch upgrade...lol.

If you do boost your car as-is...if you tune it well and run 5-7psi....it may last a while...maybe not a long while...but a while...

no wonder people are so afraid to boost their cars with all the positive responses he's gotten he's sure to go into it with an optimistic outlook.

i wouldn't be too worried about running 5psi. that won't be much fun to drive however and you will want more.

that gsr clearly had a bad tune adn clearly had mechnical probs from the get go...a turbo charger isnt' gonna blow a motor up unless the motor has real mechanical problems

was it the head gasket or the rings...probobly fryed his rings probobly leaned it out on a high speed high load run over heated it etc.

man I have scene 300,000 km talons burning alot of oil running 13's

this has pretty much useless info in it, tune solidly watch for boost creep seeign how you running low boost and you will be fine
