Engine Confusion & other Q's

Hey!
I've got a 94 Civic CX H/B, at least I think I do. The ownership/insurance says CX, but the sticker is torn off the car. Everywhere that I have looked it says the CX has a D15B8 and the DX has a D15B7 right? The "8" is a 68HP 8 valve engine and the "7" is a 102HP 16 valve engine right? Both non VTEC right?
The valve cover says 16V and it sure feels like way more than 68HP. So do I actually have a DX or just a DX engine? I know that the engine was "rebuilt" at some point but I don't know by whom or where, or if it was just replaced with another "rebuild". I got the car in Dec. so I'm not too familiar with it, and it's my first Civic.

Also, since there is no tach, does anyone know what the redline is in this car?

I had to fix a massive oil leak in the engine pan and the exhaust was replaced with an oe equiv. I would like to do I/H/E in the near future, and "later" swap for a GSR or SIR engine, which I will look into later in the future, but for now I want a few mild mods to make it a little faster and reliable.

Are fuel leaks common in this generation of Civic? I know it's leaking, but I don't know from where. I am going to have it looked at soon.

Thanks in advance!
Dennis

it's quite possible that they just replaced the engine instead of rebuilding it.. as for getting I/H/E, I would wait until you swap to the B series engine because you'll just have to do it all over again, or at least the header..

Check the stamp on the engine block.

ya, the wifes car is a CX and it has a d15b7 (16 valve sohc non-vtec)...it moves like the wind...actually, i should say it folds like a screen door in a hurricane.

If you wanna do some mods to your d-series knowing your gunna swap in a GSR later, get a bigger exhaust and an intake, but get one that will be big enough to use on the b-series when it goes in. Don't waste your money on a header, you'll have no use for it afterwards, and to be completely honest, you won't feel much of a gain with it anyways, especially on a d-series.

Awesome info! Thanks guys!
Any idea about the other questions I had, about "normal" fuel leaks and redline on that engine?

Was it 6800 rpm for the 5spd cx and 6500 for the auto?
