engine cleaning....

engine cleaning....

i just finished stripping down my engine and i'm left with a bare block and head....

what is the best way to clean these parts as well as other engine parts...like rockers, cams, etc.

wd40 will prevent rust buildup while these parts are sitting, i would clean the oil off with some varsol, then *lightlly* spray them with wd-40, or somekind of rust-inhibiting lubricant spray.
lvs works good too.

yeah matt i know you...we worked at the depot together



can i take a pressure washer to these things then give them a rust inhibitor

going through a complete rebuild and will be sitting for awhile

send the block & head out to be hottanked it cheap

but disasemble everything first!

shes in storage for the winter...so i will work on the engine over the winter....

the escort is now my winter car/parts getter

strip it down get it hot tanked then throw soem ctr pistons in the mix...wont' cost to much mroe than putting stockers in....then gsr cams if your on a budget........

put 10W30 in a spray bottle and mist these parts periodically... but if you have them hot tanked, they should come back all oiled and in a sealed bag that should remain sealed until you are ready to get your build on.

gsr cams are a waste of money? why would you put those in, i doubt you would even see a difference over b16a cams?

as long as you don't have the bores touched, hot tank the components, and dry them very well. If you machine the bores, you will get deterioration. not a big problem. spray with engine oil, and wipe down. DON"T USE WD40.

gonna have lietner hot tank it on monday then i will take it to my dads work and have it magnafluxed and sonic tested for fun...since i can get it for free
