Unhappy Engine Answer

I will try an give as much info as possible .

On a day such as today . Ie alot of moisture . turn engine on and exhaust and engine make chugging noise but the car starts .

When I press on the throttle it sounds like engine is choking up until around 3500 rpm then revs okay . after car runs for a bit it is okay

CEL light is flashing initially then stays on .

I have put in engine water treatement and injector cleaner ..

Need Info Please ......

Do you have a laptop? I have an OBD II scanner, we can plug it in and see what's going on... Kinda need the code to get us started.

BTW, generally speaking, I'd say it's time for a tune up... check rotor, cap, wires, and plugs. It seems to me the chugging you describe is a misfire, and the computer is capable of detecting a misfire, hence the code has been set. I recommend you start with a full inspection of the components I described.

I am going to try switching the wires and possible the plugs , only seems to happen when it is really wet out and onlyt recently .

Any suggestions on an after market cap and rotor

Ya, the wet condition makes me that much more suspect of your ignition. Well BOND007, do you spray NAWS haha or are you boosted at all?? If not, stick to Honda caps and rotors... actually, I have never changed mine, just a little TLC keeps them going... like 600 grit sand paper in the right spots. Check the resistance of your wires using an ohmeter or multimeter. Should be ~11K Ohms, but could vary. I'll have to check the exact Civic numbers when I go home. How old are your plugs and are they gapped right... do you run NGK copper core? You should.... Don't replace things for the sake of replacing them... test, verify, then replace Use a little di-electric grease on the boots of the wires, and your issues should be solved. As for aftermarket ignition upgrades, as per endyn (the old one), trust only MSD ignition components. This should solve your problem.

No prob... I'll get back to you on the resistance values for your plug wires, but I wanna hear if this solves your issues. If the problem persists... lemme know and I'll bring an OBD scanner w/ me on Friday (but I'd rather not if I don't have to, ya know).

If you come out Friday night to a meet, I'll most likely be there, and we can take care of the rotor and cap then and there.

gatherer, actually I was gonna end up bringing everything cuz we need the software to translate the interface. But since I'm 99% sure BOND's problem is ignition, and the code set will be a misfire, so there is no need to break out the heavy duty diagnostic equipment. BTW, where is the meet on Friday?? I gotta make a quick pit stop at Hwy 6 and 401, but that shouldn't take long.

Ya, possible to clean it up... usually gets this buildup of crud from the high-energy charge that jumps the gap, so just sand it very lightly to restore the finish. Like I said, I have a 1998 Civic, original cap and rotor still (~100K kms). Prolly due for a replacement though but I'll be going with a more energized ignition anyways to light the boost.
