Emissions Test - Valve Cover Breather Filter

Do you fail if you have an air breather filter on the valve cover instead of a re-route tube back to the intake?

Yes. Everything has to be visually "safe". I had that problem too but some how I passed Just hook it up for the test.

It's not a "safety" concern, it's the fact you're venting oil pan gasses (some nasty smellin stuff I guess) into the atmosphere...so that's pollution. That tube just puts it back into the intake to be burned and cleaned up with the catalytic converter.

is it better to take the breather off and run a tube?

or keep it on?

for everyday driving....... emissions not counting

emissions not counting, it's better to vent it out to atmosphere through a breather. But everything has been calibrated in the ECU to include this ventilation, so it will affect the tune of the engine. Basically, unless your car is really highly modded, it's not necessary. You'll never know the difference until you open the hood.

From what I have heard, you can also get an ticket if the cops pull you over and you have a breather instead of the hose. It is something to do with emissions and the fine is upwards of $300.

No problem Even my buddy's WRX with a new blow off valve stinks after a hard run...it smells like rotting eggs being boiled, since the BOV valve stock vents into the exhaust, whereas this one vents 100% atmosphere. I don't think a breather is as bad, but really, there is no point to it.

Well that's what I was told when I got my E test done. But yah they won't even test it if they see that there. At least that was for me.

well...cuz I got a JRSC on my D16Z6, and I had to cut my AEM CAI pipe to fit the new placement of the TB...and at the same time, cut off the piece where the nipple is for the air breather tube thingy. Hence, I replaced it with a air breather filter.

Do that actually LOOK to see where it's hooked up to? or can I put a tube back on the valve cover side, and then run a tube "down somewhere to NOWHERE underneath the CAI" so they can't see...so it LOOKS like it's hooked up, but really isn't?

Point is...will they THOROUGHLY inspect the engine bay and get their hands on everything? Or just do a visual once over, and then continue with the emissions test?

=)

Usually a visual once over at any smaller garage...I've seen carwashed that have the e-testing It's a arabic owned joint so all the cabbies get hooked up with e-tests, and I'm sure some of them pass on a U know? It's just that they won't let no gwai lo like me get into their "circle of friends"

i do e-tests at a shop in burlington and if your car is supped up more then most other cars then the tec might give the car a better look either to see what you got bc hes into cars. OR look for a reason to fail ya bc there are some ppl who just dont like honda's (i dont know why they must be crazy ) id make shur everything is all good bc its not worth going back for a re-test. One thing that i would suggest its to run it at high speed in a really low gear without the heat on get the temp really hot then take it to the test and cleaning the tb would help. I personaly failed a 2001 caddilac and all it needed was a tb cleaning.
