Emission test results....Failed NO and HC

Ok, here is my results of my emissions, any help to fix the problems and getting the car to pass will help.

Running test
HC ppm L-94 R-126
CO% L-0.52 R-0.10
NO ppm L-732 R-1918

Idle Test
HC ppm L-200 R-192
CO% L-1.0 R-0.49

L means LIMIT and R means READING

Any suggestions?

Matt

Oxides Of Nitrogen Or NOx
Oxides of Nitrogen or NOx are chemical compounds of Nitrogen and Oxygen, (both common in atmospheric air). NOx form during the combustion process when engine temperatures exceed 2500°F. NOx mix with hydrocarbons in sunlight to produce Photochemical Smog.

Ya, I know my NO is crazy..........I am kinda worried about it so I may get the shop to run a diagnostic test to determine the cause of the fail. The test is $110 and should save me some cash at the same time.

What are the main control units that affect the NO reading? I heard the EGR valve and the O2 sensor.

yeah EGR valve, but I've heard that older Hondas don't use EGR... or newer ones either for that matter.

I went to get the diagnostic test today and the result wasn't too bad. The cat was totally blow out, I guess an acceptable effeciency level is 80% and above, mine was at 20%, lol. Then the O2 sensor was acting up a little bit, but not too bad. I guess it is a little slow switching over from rich to lean.

So I got them to replace the cat and we retested it. It passed with flying colors. I guess the cat was that bad after all, lol.

Thanks for your input!
