eg motor swap

well i got my self a free ls motor had blowen head but i'm gonna rebuild it if it sworth it

can some one please tell me what kind of work is included in swapping into a 95 si

please dont tell em to search

i'm just asking what needs to be done

linkage right tranny right, new mounts right and axels
other then that

what has to be done witht eh harness and the ecu.

and anything else needs to be changed? or what?

the motor is out of a 98 teg i'm pretty sure its a 98

well you will need to re-use your injectors b/c obd2 injectors have different clips on them (either that or wire obd2 clips onto your harness). And you'll either need to get an obd1 b-series distributor or wire an obd2 dizzy plug onto your civic harness or odb1 dizzy plugs onto the obd2 dizzy.
You can either get your p28 chipped and run the LS program on it, or just get an obd1 LS ecu (pr4 or p75).
If the engine comes with the b-series mounts you'll be golden b/c that will be all of the mounts you need, same with if it comes with the linkages and axles (you just need integra stuff).
You can re-use your engine harness and just leave the extra plugs for vtec not plugged into anything.
I think the LS exhaust manifold bolts to the cat at a different angle than the civic, and i think its a little bit longer. You can use either a b16/gsr/itr exhaust manifold or just get an aftermarket header and be done with it.
All in all swapping a b18b into a 95 civic is a pretty easy swap, no wiring, no customizing just with the right mounts, axles, linkages its a drop in affair.
happy swapping

thanks for the info its the one thing iv never done and was checking due to the obd 1 obd2 thing

imported_360_vortex 25-Jul-2006 01:19 PM

no you dont need to go through all that trouble

here's what you need

LS motor/tranny/ecu/mounts/linkage/harness

to begin, since it's 98 motor, b18b obd2....it's going to bolt on just fine....the OEM bseries mounts should fit perfect in eg chassis...however there's some dillema regarding the rear mount bracket....it mite need the dohc del sol rear bracket...but anyhow, after you bolt the motor in, use your integra harness, dont bother with stock harness cuz it's not necessary(you could if u want).......after all your motor and tranny bolted onto the chassis. the axels and linkage u should use are integra ones... after all that, it's time for ecu...it's obd2...but keep ur mind ur ecu is obd1....there are couple ways of doing this, you could use ur stock ecu and get a conversion harness that swtich from obd2 to 1 or chip it.....if the motor's ecu is obd1 then just plug it in straight on

aside from all that, i highly suggest you change ur timing belt and water pump...clutch if necessary

All what trouble?
So you mean to tell me that you can plug obd2 injectors into an obd1 harness? Same with the dizzy, you can plug 1 big (obd2) dizzy plug into 2 smaller (obd1) plugs?

Seems to me that you're not too sure on whats needed to do this swap. To put a b-series into an EG you need 94-01 integra (any model) rear tranny bracket, timing belt side mounts, a/c mount and front tranny mount.

This part confuses me...specifically the part on BOLD

?!?!?!?
I don't get that. So convert to obd2 and use an obd2 ecu? That would be incredibly rediculous. Just chip your ecu and use the LS program or get a stock PR4 or P75 (i have one if you need it, i'll straight up trade you for your stock one).

fine may be not much of a trouble for you but i wouldn't do that...different ppl use different ways

i have done bserie swaps in eg chassis before and more than once....for me personally i used an integra rear mount bracket and it was 1 inch too short to bolt on so i got a delsol one and worked like a charm so dont doubt me on that, of course i'm not saying you are wrong, some ppl use integra mounts and bolt just fine

the last part is my fault my bad, i should've read more careful before submitting reply...what i meant what if he chose to use integra obd2 harness, he need the conversion harness for the stock ecu, unless if he chip it

zeeman 25-Jul-2006 02:20 PM

so how would you go about using obd2 injectors and dizzy in an obd1 car with an obd1 harness?
Thats why i suggested re-using his stock injectors (instead of having to wire obd2 injector clips onto his harness).
I am using an obd2 gsr dizzy on my obd1 b16 in my 95 civic....only b/c my obd1 dizzy took a crap on me, but anyways.
I am currently using a 3G integra rear bracket, it fits fine, i didn't have a single problem getting it to line up, and have used them in all of my b-series EG swaps. I don't doubt you when you say to use a del sol DOHC VTEC rear bracket, i've used it once before putting a b20 into an EG. But we had to b/c we were using these whack a$$ AVID racing mounts/conversion kit, b/c we were using a cable tranny, (the avid mounts were garbage by the way, we had to buy a gsr timing belt side mount and the del sol DOHC VTEC rear bracket, but the mount/conversion kit didn't tell us that and the pass side top tranny mount still didn't line up, it was about 1" off so we had to customize it to work).

The last part of your post still doesn't make any sense. If you mean chip the obd2 ecu, you can't do that.

look dude, i suggested using integra harness not stock harness...

and regarding the mounts, i have found that i'm not the only one that experienced that problem, another person from jdmc experienced this too when he was swapping into bseries motor in eg chassis, he even detailed it with pics, i shall find that thread to back it up

also taken from hondaswap.com "2. B18B: Completely bolt-in swap, SIR II, Hasport shift linkage. Del Sol VTEC for the del sol"

i never said chip the obd2 ecu, stock = civic ecu

but anyhow to the OP.....search because as you can see ppl will give different opinions on how to do it, and if u mix and match, you mite get screwed....search for a reliable procedure on how to perform this swap and stick with it...one link such as http://www.jdmcivic.com/forums/showt...l+vtec+bracket

and to zeeman, i respect you as one of the most knowledgable guys on the boards and i learn a lot from it, but in this case, i performed it my way and you did it ur way...and in the end both worked, i'm not critizing the fact that ur methods suck, but just personally prefer my own=P but anyhow, hope no hard feelings

zeeman 25-Jul-2006 03:10 PM

ohhhh....that makes soooo much more sense now. You're saying in order to use the integra obd2 engine harness you need an obd2-obd1 ecu conversion harness to run an obd1 ecu (his stock one).
I was having a really hard time getting that from your post.

IMO its not that much trouble keeping the engine obd1 and worth it in the long run, simply in terms of tuning.

yes precisely=).....i guess i'm officially illiterate in zeeman's book

Ii just never thought about using an obd2 harness in an EG.
I like the 2 peice obd1 harness', makes pullin the engine out nice and simple being able to just unplug the few clips from the shock towers and +/- on the starter and be done with it.

Did you find the LS exhaust manifold to not line up with the EG's cat?
I've seen this be a problem a few times, once when using a header designed for 3G LS integra on a b20 in an EG (the header was about 5 inches too long and flange was at the wrong angle) and once when using the header i had on my b16 EG in my buddys 95 LS integra (the header flanger was at a different angle than the tegs cat flange).
