EG Hatch Wheel Clearances

Hey,
I am going to buy a set of aftermarket PCW wheels. The offset is 35-40mm, and they are 195-50-r15s.. I'm a bit worried about clearances? Specifically the Brakes?? Can anyone shed some light here?

my car can hold 13" wheels up front so i wouldn't worry about your brakes hitting a 15 " rim... unless you have a big brake kit.... in which you wouldn't want a 15" rim anyways

although my new rims which are 15" and 195-50-r15 perelli rubber sit very close to the fenders.... but oddly it rubs much less then my only 195-60-r14 tires.... but this is all just a lesson on how not to do your suspension...

fawk... I don't mean to be a dick. Just saying that 1 mm of offset can make the diff btwn rub-rub-rub-rub or smooth sailing.

hey bruno how can i check offset?? someone posted how a while ago... i'm assuming it was you.... i'm curious what my new rims are.... cause the 195 series tire on my old smaller rims rubbed horribly but the 195's on my new 15" hardly rub....

so ya how do i figure it out?? isn't it like how much the outter edge of the rim comes from the senter of the rim??

No, it doesn't have to be one of those numbers specifically. Can be anywhere between, +42 for example. Not sure how you came up with those...maybe they are the most popular?

As for the question, I think a +42 is a good offset. That's what mine are...I think.

stock honda wheels for 84-03 civics and 86-01 tegs are always 45ET as in 45 offset. wheel width is 4.5-6"

what fits will depend on how low you are, softness of the suspension.

but usually <2" drop will work well with offsets of 35-45ET (38-42 optimal) for 5.5-7"wide wheels and tires such as:
186/60R14
185/55R14
195/55R14
195/50R15
195/45R15
205/50R15

for winter its best to go with stock sized rim (if fits under brakes still) and higher then normal profile but narrower tire.

I personally usually roll on 195/50R15 or 205. for the winter run 14" with 175/65R14 or 185/60R14.

hey stupid.... he said 35-40 mm offset rims. A RIM CAN'T BE 35-40 mm, unless they invented a variable offset rim in the past week So yes, it can ONLY be one number... specifically

The correct offset for a Civic is between 38mm and 42mm, but 38 will likely rub the outside of the fender, while the 42 will likely rub the inside of the wheelwell at full lock (depending on tire choice).

The way to measure offset is find the centerline of the wheel and measure from the hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel... lemme see if I got a pic to demonstrate that... :working:

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. Thougt you were saying offset could be only one of those numbers in general...didn't happen to notice they were all from his interval. (now that I read it I don't know why I assumed that) No need to go name calling, was a mistake. You're a very defensive person on these forums. I know how offset works.

didn't mean to offend you but I have no patience for ppl who say I'm wrong w/o even reading my post (it seems like). The post is there, can be read over and over and over if need be w/o me having to explain myself or clarify.

The offset part wasn't for you, it was for Rick (PunkInDrublic), who asked how to figure out the offset of his Isuzu rims

not hte izuzu's they are collecting dust now.... i was wondering about my new rims.... but that doesn't really matter... so if i'm taking a tape measure or caliper what exactly am i to measure??? like do i have to find the center of the rim... which for a 6.5 width rim would be 3.25... then find out how far off the "mounting surface" for the rim is?? thats what i gathered from your post but i'm so tired
