EG Civic Front Caliper Removal Help
 

Hello,

I am trying to replace my front rotors, and am having difficulty removing the caliper.

I got as far as lifting the caliper off the rotor, but it seems the upper caliper pin (no screw or bolt) isn't coming lose from the caliper. I know everything is rusted like crazy, and I'd like to replace the entire caliper and anchor. Anyone have a suggestion for removing this?

My other problem is probably smaller, and i've also got a pic for it:

Can i simply drill these out and not replace them? From the looks of it, the previous work done on these brakes left a partial bolt in one of the holes.. i've been told these aren't really 'critical' bolts, but i'm still not sure.

so you cant get the second bolt out of the cali? or is it just too tight to get it off?

if it's just too tight, and your gonna replace the rotor and cali, then just grab a big pry bar and try to wiggle it off from the center of the rotar, as for that screw, in reality they don't need to be there, just an added feature to stop a little bit of noise.. i drove my two civic's for 3 yrs with them out. no issues. just get a little grinder if you have it, and slice a slot in the top for a standard screw driver, or just grind the top off, so you can get the rotor off, and then use a pair of vice grips and turn the rest of the bolt out.

if u cant get it out, grind it down into the spindle assem but be carefull.. don't wanna cut the spindle up too much.

The first picture is of just a pin - no screw or bolt. It seems like there is rust bits on the pin, and that might be sticking. The strange part is that the caliper will either wiggle easily, but not come off - or it will be so stuck it was hard to bring it back down onto the rotor. I'm almost decided that i'll just replace the entire caliper and anchor assembly...

that first pic is just a pin it slides side to side no bolt
spay some lubbie dubbie and move it back and forth
then you have to take off the cradle which is 2 17 bolts i chinks they are 17
ok then you get the taht screw yup drill it out once you got the rotor off take off any acess from t he screw by grinding so it doesnt interfair with the hat of the rotor and hub ..

The caliper should come off, give it some WD40.

The seized screw, literally drill it out. Use a bigger bit to get the head out, then use a smaller one to either drill it through, or make it so that you can get the rotor out. It is fine if the stud stays inside the hub. Eventually, you will replace the hub anyway.

impact drivers are your friend for them pesky locator screws

^^ ya for the set screws just get an impact driver with a number 2 philips bit (pretty sure) take a hammer and hit the impact driver and twist counterclock wise, even though yours is a little messed it should still work

Just thought i'd post an update... i decided to wimp out and let a professional do it - i wasn't prepared to hunt for a deal on replacement calipers...
