EG Civic Brake Upgrade

Any info? I have 13inch rims, what kinda brake upgrade is better for track use? Thx
BTW I have drum brake at the rear, but don't think the rear is so important...should I upgrade to disc brake?

well your options ar limited with 13" rims rotor size wise.... I would go with a drilled rotor, stainless baraided lines, and an upgraded caliper.. at least 4 piston, if u can afford a 6 piston than go nuts.. upgraded pads also... your looking at around 2 grand min...

Something cheaper would be an itr setup..theres a guy selling one in the clasifides 1200$

what kinda rotor size is ITR? what rims size?

imported_gatherer 01-Feb-2004 08:52 AM

I don't think a 6 piston woudl fit in there...

ok personally all I've done is change the pads to hawk HP plus pads and new brembo rotors and the fluid to motul 600 ...

but thats because thats all I can do in stock class if you can upgrade the other stuff like Boostzex suggested then go for it...

a bigger caliper will not fit inside the rim...I have an EG and the caliper has less than an 1/8" of clearance within the wheel...Im personally staying with the stock size and doing what gatherer has done....plus Im going to upgrade my drums with a 93 Si setup cause they are bigger...other than that, youre stuck where you are if you stay with the same size rim...

you're maxed out for a 13 inch rim, but brake size won't matter if you are just ICE racing

i plan on sum upgraded brembo cross drilled slotted rotors, maybe SS lines from willwood, and better fluid, and pads of course.... i want to do an SiR swap in the back for my drums, but it takes alot of work. :shrugs:

i'm new here, i drive a 98 Si, i go to the track with my car too, my setup for brake is currently, front 97 GSR caliper, kvr x-drill rotor, Hawk HP+ pads, SS brake line, and the rear is 96 GSR disc brake upgrade with caliper (it'll directly bolt on to the civic) kvr x-drill rotor, and HPS pads and SS brakeline in the rear!

i'm also using Project Mu pads and ferodo pad for racing! if you're going to race ur car and dive it on the street as a daily driver, i suggest going with slotted rotors instead of x-drill! oh and motul RBF600 is a great brakeoil, but u gotta bleed it about once a month (street driving) and everytime after u race on the track! otherwise just use the motul DOT5.1.

It really doesn't... I had a lot more trouble doing the front than I did with the rear. I did the rear in one day in a poorly lit garage, and the front took me nearly 3 weeks :D LOL but that's cuz I work and fix other cars too. :p

*Best bang for buck, could be wrong tho.*

Circuit:
4 wheel disc GSR (4 bolt) or 5 bolt Type R (min is 15" rims n tires)
Hawk Brake pads(pending what your set up is) front and maybe rear. (HP+ perferred)
Motul Brake Fluid RBF600 (bleeded every circuit day)
Rotors can be slotted/drilled.

Optional is if you got the extra coin is:
Spoon Calipers, ITR 1" MC and brake booster(optional is the porportional valve), S-Stell brake lines..hehe..

Willwood or AEM packages would require certain 16 or 17 inch rims in order too fit.

Drag:
4 wheel disc compatible too Civic of course
Hawk HP Plus pads or Feredo(sp) pads
Good set of perf. rotors.

I might have left stuff out as usual...Good luck on the brakes..
