Edelbrock Turbo Kit for D16Y8

Performer X Turbo System #1500 for Honda Civic VTEC

With over a 60% increase in power, this complete and simple to install Turbocharger Kit gives 1996-00 Honda Civic SOHC VTec D16Y8 owners an option to costly non-emissions legal engine swaps. The Garrett T28 ball bearing Turbocharger comes pre-assembled as one unit with a Ni-resist cast exhaust manifold, a cast iron exhaust elbow, and inlet oil and water lines for the simplest possible installation. The system includes a high-performance Performer X intake manifold with four extra injectors and a separate electronic controller to add fuel under boosted conditions. Also includes an oversized Spearco intercooler and Tial blow off valve. The Edelbrock exhaust manifold and elbow are designed for maximum flow at high velocity for quicker turbo spool-up. We’ve included a windshield pillar mounted boost gauge and pre-assembled Russell oil, water and fuel lines to make this one of the most complete kits on the market. Available early Spring ’03. Emissions-legal status pending.

I have been in contact with Edelbrock. They will keep in touch with me regarding this. Give me some info on your car. What have you done to it. I have a 1998 Honda Civic Si Coupe 5SP Red. Right Now its at the dealership getting the engine rebuilt under warranty. They have had since Oct 28/02. I havent done much to it yet maily cosmetic. I have indiglo gauges and side markers. I have a custom ehaust and ractive intake, MOMO shifter and I cut the stick about inches. I plan to install a system soon. Sony 5 Channel Amp XM-7557 and Kenwood KVT-911DVD DVD LCD Screen (havent got the deck yet. I'm waiting to get the car back first). Im planning more performance mods but not sure what to do yet I'm not that familiar with Honda Cars this is my first one.

Here is the email they sent me back....

"Our system will not be available until Mar/Apr of 2003. The cost has not yet been completely finalized as we are still doing some development. We do not sell direct, but our Sales people will be able to tell you where you can buy from in Toronto."

The sales guy emailed me today here is what he said.

"Thank you for your interest in our new turbo kit for Hondas. Unfortunately we do not have a bulk mailing list or a way of contacting all customers when a product becomes available. If you don't mind, please keep my e-mail address and feel free to contact me sometime in march and I will keep you informed as to when the release of the turbo kit will be."

i have a 98 civic si-g,
tint, lowered, rims, custom exhaust, intake, cleared headlights, painted the orange red on my tails, sidemarkers, swapped in 1.6 EL leathers, sony deck, pioneer speakers, and a kenwood sub/amp, spark plug wires and plugs.... i think that's it..... i donno, i plan on upgrading the security this year to some crazy system, and upgrading the soundsystem and a few cosmetic and performance things.... turbo would be for later, cuz you can't run high boost on a purley stock engine, you'd have to rebuild with higher quality stuff before you can run high boost, otherwise you'll kill it........

what are your plans for the future? both costmetic and performance?

GuNmETaL_Si and I are fellow 98 owners, so i'm sure we'll be interested, esp in the TURBO!!!!

I'm not really sure I really want the turbo but I dont know what I need to do to get the engine prepared for it... Any suggestions.
I was planning on getting some custom canvas seats. I originally wanted leather but unless they are heated I can be bothered. I also want to do some shocks and lowering springs. I dont know whats good.

98 and up are heated!! i have the heated ones! another project this summer is to buy the wiring harness from acura and hook up my heated leather seats!!!

As for springs it depends on what kind of drop you're going for, i have Eibach Pro Kit, because i wanted 17's and i didn't want a big drop, other people have H&R sports with 16's, it's a little bigger drop and gives a more aggressive stance....
as for shocks it depends on how much you want to pay.... a little vs alot...... i'm on stock shocks for now until the summer hopefully we'll have the gb go through soon! KYB AGX, or Koni Yellows or Reds, they're all good shocks...

As far as getting the engine prepared for a turbo, there will be a ton of stuff to do, maybe another rebuild if you want to run really high boost, why is it getting rebuilt now? what went wrong?

do some research on turbos and what you want, and find out how much boost you have to run to get that 60% gain that they talk about in the article you posted, and then post something up in the tech forum, and i'm sure one of the geniuses here will help you out, i have a basic idea, but i'm not a genius yet!

What do you mean they are heated? do you mean the seat if so are you talking about after market seats or the factory ones...

Im looking for a 2" drop and right now I have 15" rims but plan to upgrade to 17's

My engine is getting rebuilt because it was burning oil i guess. The dealer hasnt given me any info why it blew. I actuall called Honda Canada today to find out why it is taking so long to get parts. They have my car since Oct 28. Most of the parts are being replaced. I will try to get a list of what they are replacing and what they are going to keep.

As far as turbo/boost is concerned. Im not really sure what that means I just want a lot of power but it still is an everday car to drive to work with...I was hoping i wouldnt have to do much to the engine once i get it back i guess the minimum would give me what I need. I would be happy with 180 hp. I just love to put those sticker books (ricers) way behind me on the highway Im not looking for a race car, if I was, i would spend my money elsewhere... Mabey a S2000 With upgrades... But for now I have to settle for my Civic.

Does anyone know what exactly i would have to do to get my engine ready for turbo...The more info the better...

you could run 7 psi on a stock d16 no problem it sounds like that kit is good all you would need is to have it tuned properly......if you want to run "high boost" like 1 bar then a block guard and or studding the block, pistons rods, and a standalone would be recommended

i have the factory 1.6 EL seats. from an actual car, fronts and backs, and the front ones are heated, they have the wire lead underneath each seat, i just have to get the harness and hook it all up!!!

Yeah i've been considering that option as well, why spend $4000 on a swap, and come out with 160 hp, if i can spend $4000 and get more for the buck, if i was gonna upgrade more in the future i'd go for the swap but for now, i want to

Well, it will turn out that the Civic will no longer really be a street car...haha...a 4 dr race car. It will compete in Solo 2. I have other cars that I can use for the street. Maybe an odd weekend out. But yes...SRT4s at the track like BOND007 so cleverly pointed out
