easy engine swaps

Just for education's sake, i'm wondering what engines will swap into my 94 civic sedan. Basicly just a bolt on, with minimul adjustments and such...

lanks!

It's

D series
B Series
H series

H22a is fairly complicated because nobody has actually documented a swap properly.. There's a lot of vague information everywhere.

JDM wiring is a pain in the ***, I'm dealing with it right now.

Easy swaps would be B series, bolt into stock mount swaps.

the list should also include the f series engines that have the same mounts as the H series

D series
B Series
F series (2.2 liter SOHC..torquey)
H series

I've never seen an F-series swapped into a Civic. It's really not a worthwhile swap. Lets stick to swaps that ppl can actually do:

B18C 170-205 hp
B18B 130-140 hp
B16A 160
B16B 185
D16A ??
D16Y 107-127
D16Z 126
D15B ??
.
.
.

Personally, I don't think an H22A swap qualifies as a DIY swap for most ppl. We shouldn't be repeating this... there is a complete listing in the FAQ or wherever all the engine info was stashed away.

well bbarbulo your correct ... but if people want to know what goes in ... if you say an h series engine is easy well an f series is just as easy ....

however the d and b series engines are super easy in comparasion to both the f and h series ... and yes with the extra time it would take to swap in an f series engine you might as well swap in an h series engine ....

lanks!

For your car, in order of ease and overall cost:

'92-'95 OBDI D-series VTEC (D16Z6, JDM D16A, JDM D15B)
'92-'95 OBDI JDM SOHC ZC or SOHC VTEC ZC
'96-'00 OBDII D-series VTEC (you will need to run the equivalent OBDI ecu ie if you drop in a D16Y8 from a '98 si you'll need an ecu from a D16Z6)
'92-'93 OBDI B18A
'94-'95 OBDI B18B
'96-'01 OBDII B18B (again, you'll need the OBDI equivalent ECU)
'92-'93 OBDI B17A
Any CRV or JDM SMX B20 (you'll need a OBDI B18B manual ecu and a b-series manual tranny)
'92-'95 OBDI 2nd gen B16A
'96-'00 OBDII 2nd gen B16A (with OBDI ecu of course)
'94-'95 OBDI B18C1 or JDM Integra SiR-G B18C
'96-'01 OBDII B18C1 or JDM Integra SiR-G B18C (with OBDI ecu of course)
Any 1st gen ITR B18C5 or JDM ITR B18C (if you can't get an OBDI version you can run any OBDI DOHC VTEC B-series ecu with a chipped program, OR run a P28 re-chipped with a DOHC VTEC program)

For any of the DOHC VTEC engines, if you cna't find an OBDI ecu for it, you can run an OBDI P28 ecu from the D16Z6.. it will need to be rechipped with a DOHC VTEC program,. however you'll lose knock sensor control and in the case of the GSR motors (B18C1's) you'll need to switch to a singal-stage intake manifold.

For any of the non-VTEC B-series engines (B18A, B18B, B20B/Z) you can run your current ecu. It runs surpisingly well but you should get the right ecu.

All B-series drive shafts are the same across all production years.

Mounts which come stock on all these motors will bolt right to your engine bay without any issues.

For the ITR engines. the newer ones have built-in immobilizers in the ecu. You'll need to get this bypassed or use an alternative ecu mentioned above.

Get your fuel pump upgraded. Prelude pumps are the ****. Stock or aftermarket.

Lol.. I was thinking that like 2 days ago when i got to wiring my h22... heheh It's definetly harder.. considering the engine has to drop in at like a 70 degree angle on the tranny side below the frame, then straighten then lift up.. you have to basically drop the h22 on the floor below the frame then lift it straight up..

OBD stands for on board diagnostics the I and II are just different levels of it... II being the newer

just a side question... if i'm cheap now and want to put in an LS motor for a little more umph! for now... down the road will a b16a or b18c head bolt right on?? it would make the LS/vtec motor just wondering if anything weird needs to be done on top?

if you are going to do an ls/vtec do it right and have everything rebuilt then swapped in. or else you'll be paying twice the labour to have the motor put in, then later taken out to get rebuilt and put back in again.
