dyno wierd

i dynod my car last month in cooler temperature at 171. Today i dynod my car same dyno and tuner at 161 ANd an off air fuel.....whats up with that

and i ended up with 187 and 146 tq b20 ztec

nadir 28-Jun-2007 08:40 AM

well, the question is, how can i get it tuned last month for 171 and today it be 161....IS that wierd

zeeman 28-Jun-2007 09:07 AM

well ambient temperature has a lot to do with it....if its hotter outside, the hotter, less dense air will result in less power, compared to the colder, more dense air.
Also, wheel/tire size will affect the power output while on the dyno.

nadir 28-Jun-2007 10:04 AM

im on teh same wheels and same dyno with the same tuner

does that mean its better to tune the car on a cooler day..my tuner said that its better to tune on a hot day so u can get the worst case scenerio..As the temp gets cooler, the ecu will correct itself

Cynikal.Mindset 28-Jun-2007 12:13 PM

hot air is less dense which yields less power...think about it...cold air intake, intercoolers, intercooler coolers, dudes icing down intakes, hondata intake manifold gaskets

cooler air more power...tune on a hot day and get the most out of the engine with hotta air...in theory when its cooler the results will be better

Mr. Death 28-Jun-2007 12:58 PM

When its cold outside it makes makes a HUGE difference in the amount of power my car makes. Night and day.

nadir 28-Jun-2007 02:36 PM

SO i tuned in 41 degrees..nice..........i hope it doesnt get any hotter outside

zeeman 28-Jun-2007 02:46 PM

well just like your tuner said that as the air gets cooler the ECU will correct itself, the same applies for when the air gets hotter.
This is the nice thing about using a honda ecu for our tuning needs....it has IAT and ECT corrections, that don't need lots and lots of manipulating to get the car to run well under all different conditions.

nadir 29-Jun-2007 12:59 PM

but does my dyno reading sound normal for a b20 z vtec, type r cams, megan header, type r intake manifold, type r tb, prelude injectors, walboro fuel pump , j's racing short ram intake, omni valve springs, omni retainers, str cam gears, unorthodiox pullys, no power stearing and no air condition ,2.5 inch crush piping, magna flow, high flow cat, and a no name twin loop exhaust. i believe it has 2.5 inch inlet

and obd1 dyno tuned

zeeman 29-Jun-2007 01:04 PM

ya, sounds about normal.

nadir 29-Jun-2007 02:39 PM

what can i do to get more power...without turbo or ripin the motor apart .....any bolt on im missing..what about the test PIPE

zeeman 29-Jun-2007 03:00 PM

test pipe will yeild minimal gains.
Did your tuner tune the cam gears? Or are they just at the stock settings?

nadir 29-Jun-2007 03:13 PM

i was told if i touch the cams the piston to valve contact would happen

nadir 29-Jun-2007 03:14 PM

no he didnt touch the cam gears

zeeman 29-Jun-2007 03:21 PM

see thats the problem with b20vtecs....the b20 pistons have very small valve reliefs (compared to the vtec pistons). So if you have cams with lots of lift or simply too much overlap, or the intake valve opening too early you take the chance of smashing the valves with the piston.
A good header, like SMSP, RMF, Rage, Hytech, F1 racing, etc etc will get you more power than any off-the-shelf header will....but good headers are expensive.

nadir 30-Jun-2007 06:56 PM

well i paid about 350 for mine...Im asuming those headers cost in the 1000 dollar range..Plus are the gains minimal like 2 whp cause a test pipe might yield that

zeeman 01-Jul-2007 12:15 AM

um.....no
i've seen a "good" header yeild upwards of like 10-15whp over an off the shelf header, especially a cheap, knock off brand like megan.

Nitrous. 50 hp at the touch of a button.

trigga 01-Jul-2007 10:20 AM

blow your load in the intake manifold 100 hp.
