seriously its a waste of money, just get an engine swap and call it a day. if ur seriously gonna stick with the D series then atleast swap the tranny for the Si one with shorter gearing, u will accelerate faster meaning ur car should be faster aswell unless u take like 5 seconds to shift. Also all u really need is like a stage 1 clutch at the most, i doubt ur gonan be pumping out more than 150whp even if u do all internals on the engine with I/H/E. D series is good for experimenting with turbo cause the engines are cheap and they are easy to find.

NA D drag in 12.6's @ 105 mph, and 540wp/400tq Turbo D is a good indication that Honda engines are worthy of everyone's time, and the result is worth every penny.

Most D series builders are looking for challanges, although a good number of them cannot afford the money for a B or other types of engines. But when you are seriously "building" one, any engine will end up roughtly in the same ball park figure.

It is the same sport, but played with different rules.

I say save for the B-Series swap. If your that Hooked on going fast you won't be satisfied with a D with Bolt On's. I got a ZC and was goign to install it in my 91 CX and at the last minute decided against it. Your only going to be gaining 20hp at the wheel's if that. Not worth the time. B16's go for $700!!!!!!! You can't beat the power you get at that price!!! Sure the swap is more complicated and it cost's alot more but then again your gaining a solid 40-50hp more to the wheel's with a few bolt ons!!!!!! And people will say "Turbo your D". Another waste of time IMO. Even a junkyard Turbo set up will cost you $1500 and then when its all done and boosted you still got a D motor with Rod's as thin as a toothpick. For $1500 more you can start with a Better motor altogether that make's almost the same power N.A than a D does boosted. And forget all this"I dont' have the money for a B16 swap" thats BULL****!!!!!!!! I make $8 an hour and Im doing a B16 swap in 2 week's. You jsut have to save your money and not be tempted to blow it on mod's that give you minimal gain's. D motor's can be Quick but B motor's can be FAST!!!
And the oldest saying in Hotrodding ................................ Speed cost's money.....How fast do you want to go?

Please post up a dyno sheet where a N/A B16 or even B18 makes over 150wtq. You would be lucky to see 120wtq.

you cannot get a B16 for 7 bills!!!!!
the lowest i found was 2500 bucks with everything!

for 700 bucks ill take 3 and build insane motors right now!
listen to some of us.

why spend 2 grand t0 make 20hp IF that????
just like now, i have an SIR with bolt ons I/H/E and pullies and this thing hauls ***.... but i cant beat around with in Hamilton b/c my SIR stands out too much. ( not boasting )

thats why even though i have this, im not happy, i wil eventually sell this setup next year b/c ive decided to go boost!
ive been wanting boost for so long and this is the route im going.
the thing will run low 7psi and properly tuned to bea daily driver including in the winnter/// yah somemight thing im crazy but then again... I DONT CARE... its MY CAR and its NOT AN ENZO!

do whatever u like in all do respect but make a smart choice!
i say GO H22.. hahahah

and dont believe people OH ITS SO HEAVY!
if u do ur suspension setup right u wont have problems! and im not talking about slappings springs and GO!
get Struts too!

peace

Okay so you Turbo your D motor. You have around 160-170whp. You do a B16 swap you will have around 140-145 at the wheel's STOCK!!!. So your making 20 less hp and your NOT boosted. And there are other thing's that make a B motor so much better. Such as heavier duty rods, crank and the fact it has equal length driveshaft's which reduce torquesteer. And B16's are $700. www.teknotik.com B16 first gen for $680. So after tax it woudl be aroudn $800. So factor in another $400 for a tranny. A bit more for a hydraulic one. So you can get the whole package for Under $1500 with computer if you shop around. No reason you can't swap a First gen. There's conversion Harness's. So if you do a Turbo-D set up you'll most likely need a clutch or Bust a driveshaft. So you might as well just start with a B motor. But then again do what you want. If you want just a quick daily driver and dont' care too much about speed than keep your d-motor. There still good motor's and with a few bolt-on's can be quite peppy. But if you have your heart set on going fast you jsut won't be satisfied with a D. With a B motor in a Hatch you can rape most stock vehicle's sold today and you can even hang with 5.0litre's and camaro's if you mod it right. The choice is your's. Be quick or be FAST!!!

The thing about the turbo D is tq. At least a 20-30 increase of tq. That is where the Turbo D lives. But I do see your point on how quick you wanna go and what motor is better for that.
If you want 14's go for a turbo D
If you want 13's or under swap first

A stock B16 in a hatch and a Turbo D in a hatch will perform almost equally. The Turbo-D might even be a little bit faster due to more torque. And hey it might even be a little bit cheaper. But why I side with a B series is because there is so much more room to grow. When boosting a D motor you are almost reaching its full potential before having to build it internally. With a B motor you can run low 14's and you've barely touched the thing. Start changing manifold's and Cam's and your right into the 13's and your not even boosting yet!!!!!! And if you do decide to boost you can have a 12sec daily driver with a Boosted B series hatch. And if your budget is tight but you want to swap go for a B18A/B. There plentifull, very robust and have perfect gearing for boost. And you can pick up a whole package (engine, tranny, ecu) for Under $1200. Or slap a Vtec tranny on the B18A/B and you will have one fast car for not much money.

he also has a 96, so older engines are out of the question as you can't swap an engine in thats older than the car, thus the price of the engine goes up...

quite yer bitching fools

this thread is not a debate about engine swaps, the originator was simply asking for some dyno plots

if you can't comprehend the thought that people work with and mod D series engines, get your head checked and stop ruining a perfectly good thread.

Has anyone tried an UNORTHODOX RACING PULLY SET?

They replace the factory Crank, Alternator and Power Steering Pulleys. I heard they produce close to 15hp for the D series engine.

Anyone know?

you thinnk by adding your .02 cents makes or gives a damn?
we on the other hand is giving him ideas to think about..

u want to go and spend 2grand on a mini conversion, go right ahead... but if u aint getting gains, u fvckin threw your money away..... use ur head...

obviously he is new to the boards and we are shedding some light to him, you go to other boards u get all noobied up and put to shame... we try to help, art least what i thought anyways!

my .02 cents
SWAP. B18B - b/c his car is a 96 so you need a newer engine.
B16A2, B18C1 or the H22

d series are nice, but when u tamper with the internals id be a bit sketchy and numbers are going to be harder to reach!

ok... well, there is for sure some insight...

maybe a swap might be ideal!!!

so b18b (gsr i think?) or b16a2(sir i think?).

Which one is better for a hatch?

I was quote from the local japanese auto importers $3500 installed complete b16 swap or $4500 complete b18 swap with install included... Any ideas?

Cry me a river...
You guys may be giving him ideas, but that was not the intent of the post. If it was entitled "What engine should I go with" thats fine, but this, was clearly marked otherwise.

If he did research to look up a mini me swap, he should very well know his engine options and choices as well.

I don't see him throwing his money away with a mini me swap, even if it is a D series there is still some gains. How can you talk when you have I/H/E on a b16 and think thats money well spent.

If you wanted best bang upgrades for the buck, shoulnd't you be telling him to go get american muscle instead, seems like more sense to me..
