dropped on 16's
 

so my civic is dropped on stock shocks with H&R springs....and i ve got 205/45/16 wheels on the car....sometimes when i take the turn fast, i can hear the tires rubbing against plastic in the wheel well


so would adjustable shocks in the front solve the problem or at least help a bit?

is camber kit necessary at all?

Firstly, what kind of H&R springs?

race or sport?

not too sure...ill read the code off them

but theyre red and the ground clearance is very minimal......the ride is not too stiff

its a bit on the comfy side....so id say theyre Sport

they are race if they are red and sport if they black.....post pix to show us how much wheel gap u got left.....from wat i have seen there shouldn't be much left, n 16s should scrape like mad.....Also, with the race application, I'm almost sure you will need a camber kit....my sports even made my rears have some uneven tire wear...

race drops a little more than 2".

that's pretty low on 205/45/16, sure not touching fenders?

whether the springs be the sport or race model shouldn't matter.. neither is a crazee drop. Your wheel OFFSET is probably not right for the car. If you corrected your camber to 0 degrees it'll also bring the top of the tire closer to the fender but again, even on race springs shouldn't be a prob.

with race springs (2.5"f 2.25"r) you will get a bit of rub, not to mention a really stiff ride, shocks that'll wear sooner, and the occasional bottoming out.

with a camber kit you'll get even more rub since the top of the tire is now closer to the fender, but at least your tires won't wear unevenly and you wont' kill your other suspension components.

with sport springs (1.75"f 1.5"r) you'll get less rub - you should get -almost- none if you don't push the car like mad. you'll also get a more comfortable ride and your shocks will last a bit longer.

as stated the big unknown factor is OFFSET of your rims. if it's the wrong offset, you'll get rubbing REGARDLESS of the springs you've chosen.

ultimately, your suspension setup should not rub or touch anything thru the entire suspension travel distance.

well i have eibach pro kit, same size wheels and rubber as you... and when i take a turn really hard i rub in my fenderwell too..... so i just stopped turning so damn hard

So then I do have race springs since thyre red

my rims are bronze Rota C8's so im not sure of the offset

the tires are quite close to the fenders...not even a finger apart...the fender almost sits on the tire....thats what it looks like

The ride is fine but with 3 people it starts to rub frequently on every bump...or if i take the trun really hard

I'll get some sport shocks in the front and hopefully it will help just a little

I can think of a few solutions

1) get smaller wheels, i.e. 15"
2) stiffer springs
3) 40 series tires (if they make that application)

there also 205, and not 195 :shrugs:

wheel offset is in question cuz given the correct tire size, the wheel should never come close to touching the wheel liner front section. I used to have that problem with my very first set of rims back in 98, cost me another set of rims and 2 new fenderliners (expensive mistake)

What is the offset for Civics?

most wheels for civics or integras with a 6.5 or 7.0 width should have a 40 offset.. stock Honda rims ie Blades are a 45 offset, so the 40 offset places the wheel 5mm more Outward to compensate for a wider rim and give a wider stance to improve handling

get a stiffer strut so that there is less travel in it when cornering...coilover systems match the spring rate and the damper properly so that you get a perfect combination of handling and cornering
I have a set of tein coilovers and 205/45/16 tires and i'm fine as far as rubbing goes

not likely, H&Rs have good rates and besides with good rubber you can corner good with stock springs.

offset or alignment


15" rims don't matter as long as whatever size is same overall diametre as stock. 195/55/15 is same as 205/40/17 at 23.5" only difference is the 1" wider...which is why people suggest its either offset or alignment related.
