Dohc Zc Vs D16z6

I was wondering witch one would be better the dohc zc or the sohc v tech. I'm just looking for a little more pep. Thats why I'm not doing a B series swap. Maybe later on after I get the car looking the way I want it. Want would the price be for each motor. Thanks

Price should be about the same for both, from what i understand, finding parts for a dohc zc is harder because its not a widely available motor in North America, both have about an equal amount of power. Most of the D16z6 are gonna be high mileage, so why dont you consider a JDM D15b vtec.

My brother has a DOHC ZC in his EF hatch, and I have a d16z6 in my EJ coupe. His car definately, no question about it, pulls harder than mine...its peppy.

That being said, it is a pain the *** to find parts for his motor.

If I were you, I get a B18B

keep in mind the weight difference between his EF hatch and your EJ coupe. weight savings makes a big difference and is an important part in making your sohc quick.

dohc by far

get the dohc zc with zc tranny its the only d series motor with half shaft cuz of the pull you get from these motors i have been through 4 of these motors and about 4 si trannys as for after market parts use 86-89 integra parts there almost the same good luck with your choice

I am doing the JDM D15b swap in 2 weeks and will be able to tell you what I think going from d16z6 to the d15b. My z6 is pretty hurtin, but im already running I/H/E on it and will swap it all to the d15 when complete.

I sourced my motor from a guy here on TCC and picked up everything I needed for $800.

Eric at Teknotik has good prices on this motor too, plus you are already going to make around 128hp with the d15b.

hope my 2cents helps

i don't see how the d15b will be any better than the d16z6. your motor is prob in bad condition. they're the same thing except the d16z6 has that extra .1 litre. oh yeah and the d15b just has a different cam profile.

Man my buddy has a 4th gen hatch with a dohc zc past etest no prob theres a custom requirement aloowing different limits on all the required test for emissions and i also have buddies with b16 4th gens and si 4th an 5th gens and man to be honest the zc feels as fun as the b16 and defintly spanks the si's hands down

there are sooo many parts in the d15b that are unique to the d15b, not just the cam. I have a d15b in my eg sedan and it's ok. I've been in a crx with a d15b and crx with a dohc zc and they feel very similar, dohc zc doesn't spank d16z6 or d15b, you have to compare them in the same car. My vote is for d15b, same price roughly, newer and vtec.

ok there are quite a bit of "unique" parts on the d15b. i still don't see the point in spending the extra money for a "JDM" d15b when you can have the d16z6 for cheaper and the added .1 litre. have fun finding replacement parts for the d15b from honda. sohc's can make quite a bit of power FI so it's not a useless swap.

Its harder to find a good d16z6, thats why i said get a d15b, its a cheap motor too, so i dont think the price would be a big concern.

ummm d15bs are 1200 from teknotik. i rather buy an ls swap with that money. i got my d16z6 for 500 bucks which still imo isn't that great of a price but the motor was mint. there are way more d16z6 out there in NA than d15bs so it just takes more time to find a good one.

actually d15b's are $700 from teknotik, 1200 is for the full swap package.... and 9/10 times a d15b will have less than half the kms of the average z6. It's a decent motor at a good price, use z6 plugs and wires, vx timing belt and water pump.
