Does the cold affect an already bad starter moter?

Hello Everyone,

I have a 96 si coupe, and recently when the temp really dips, I have trouble starting the car in the morning for work. I did a full tune including fuel filter, alternator belt, and battery before the winter. When the temp warms up a bit around noon time, the car starts up just fine. I realyze that cold weather puts an enormous strain on the vehicle, but I've had this car for 6 years and its never done this. Anyhow, I do notice that there are times recently where I have gone to start it and it will make a grinding kind of noise as it fires up. Im thinking it could be the starter. My question is if my starter is going, could the really cold weather affect the starter so much that it wont even fire up the car? If its the starter does anyone happen to know a trustworthy mechanic or shop in the Milton area? Just moved out here. Thanks for reading and I apreciate any advice.
