Do I need to replace my control arms?

im planning on lowering my 97 EK civic coupe with Tien springs

but my mechanic keeps telling me I need to replace my lower control arms

why?
and is it a must?
will changing the control arms address camber at all? what would?

Camber is affect by adjusting upper control arm, not the lower.

Even with the tein springs your camber won't be so far out of spec to justify buying a front camber kit unless your really picky or have expensive tires.

Lol, he ****ed a guys car up LARGE with a motor build. Didnt warrenty anything, then jsut disappeared after the customer was forced to take it to another shop.. after finding he put exhaust valve seals on intake valves and intake valve seals on exhaust valves i wouldnt take him a weedwacker to fix.

maybe ur mechanic is tellin u to fix it cause it needs replacing not cuz u need it for ur new set up and u might as well do it when ur paying him for the labour anyways.. did u ever think of that?

If they needed replacing obviously I would get them done, im asking are they a must, and if so why?

If the bolt is seized, what they do is torch it, spray water then try to torque if off again. That's one of the method.

What that might do, is damage or melt some of the rubber bushing. Now, I forgot if Honda sells the bushing alone. You will have to call to find out.

Unless the said mechanic has lifted up the car and attempted to torque off the bolt but failed, then maybe, you need to replace it (again, if Honda sells bushing alone, then you just replace the bushing).

Just soak the bolts in pen. fluid for a week before you try to torque them off.

This has worked on 5/6 bushing/bolts I have done in the past.

hehe for eks they only sell the bushing for the shock they dont sell the ones for the subframe and trailing arm ..

Maybe the bushings for all 3 holes are the same? Anyone confirm the size and bolt hole?

All 3 bushings are the same. They go for ~$20 each and the bolts are ~$10 each from dealer.

I just finshed replacing my LCA's for aftmkt LCAs last week on my ek bcuz after installing my fully adj. PIC suspension the old, worn out bushings couldnt handle the added stress and started to give. While replacing, one bushing was seized onto the bolt so there was no way the bolt was coming out unless it was torched/cut off.(yes, I tried to heat them up) I wish I had pictures... I completly heated up and even torched part of my old control arm just to torch off that one bolt!! Its a headache of a job. Luckly enough, I knew parts would be seized so I order all new bolts b4 the job...To go with the new lca's.

Your mechanic is just watching out for you bcuz for SOME cases, seized parts WILL have to be damaged to be taking off. I hope you're aware of this.

My advise, pick up a pair of Megan lca's for $150 (bushing included and installed). Replace the with new bolts and never worry about them again.
