Do i need a high flow cat?

i have a zc crx with a greddy turbo going on in the spring(boosted 5-7) i have a 2 1/2 inch exhaust now with the stock catalytic coverter, do i need a high flow cat for my setup, if so what would be the advantage or disadvantage on putting one on, i was thinking of getting the Random Technology cat, any help would be appreciated

A high flow cat would probably give you some gains with a turbo set up as well depending on the age of your stock cat you might need one soon anyways. You might also want to look into a company called Carsound (made be Magnaflow) for high flow cats. I had one on my old car and had no problems.

If your cat is stock and original ie. never been changed, then yes, for sure, your prolly gonna need one to pass emissions. Besides that turbo doesn't like backpressure like an N/A engine does.

A free flowing exhaust system will definitely be beneficial for the turbo system..

While you're installing the turbo.. just take a look at the cat and you should be able to tell if the cat is plugged or not.. If it is... replace it.

As for using a test pipe... The sound difference won't even be noticeable due to the turbo system naturally supressing the noise by 1/3.

But either way... You'll definitely want to make the exhuast more free flowing... You'll be glad you did.

I'm running a test pipe right now. I gotta say, that you really feel a difference with and without the test pipe in place. Gains are not huge, but very noticeable. Although, I don't like polluting the environment...so, as soon as I find a proper cat...my cat's going back in.
