distributor problem??

Just a couple days ago I noticed my car making a rubbing/ knocking sound from under my hood. it's on and off. so i go home and parked my car and the sound came again. I checked to find where the noise is coming from and it's coming from the distributor cap. So I grabbed the dizzy cap to see if anything was loose and it felt like something was knocking inside causing a vibration when grabbing onto the cap. I open up the cap and the cap seems fine and the rotor seems fine. allot of brown deposits though. could it be my distributor that is causing this? bad bearing causing something to knock inside?

I know for sure it's coming from somewhere withing the dizzy. at first it sounds like the car need valve adjustments that would cause that knocking sound but this aint the case

when it does make that noise and i hold onto one end of the wires attached the dizzy cap, i can feel it vibrating/knocking (anywhere on the cap actually).

anyhow, what is the worse case scenerio if my dizzy just goes? can't start the car?

any help is appreciated

thanks in advance

well if its the bearing on the shaft and it seizes, since its attached to the cam shaft, it could cause it to seize and the timing belt to skip teeth (if you're driving when it seizes).
But if like the coil or ICM goes, then ya, basically the car won't start/run.

those brown deposits are you talking about is rust. The bearing is rusting, and it might seized any moment.
