Difference Between Full Cat and Just Muffler And Tip or w/e

Hey Guys, i'm thinking of puttin a Magnaflow Catback exhaust system onto my civic, and i was just wondering.....i can get the full cat.....or i can get the like just the muffler part and the tip ....like just a bit of the piping to attach the muffler to the pipe.....so i was wondering.....is there that much of a performance difference?....or how does it work?........amateur i know i know...but hey...that'z why i post on this board and read it.....to learn....lol

You'll get more preformace gains with a full catback system. A catback includes all the piping from the catatic converter back. This piping is usually of larger diameter from stock, and all bends are smooth mandrel bends. Mandrel bends, meaning the diameter of the pipe does not decrease in a bend, like you'll find in crush bending.

A full cat back will obviously be more expensive, but the results are superior.

You can opt for a axle back system, the name speaks for its self. You get the muffler and a short bit of piping which connects to your mid pipe, just before the rear axle. Gains aren't much if any as much of the piping is still the small stock diamter piping. Its a more affordable option if you're straped for cash I suppose.

its' a waste of money to jsut get a axle back.....get a full catback ....you coudl get a whoel system ie high flow cat, glass pack resonator, 2 1/4 piping and muffler for best results

I had a Magnaflow muffler before and I didn't notice any performance gains, just more sound. There is a place in Hamilton called A&A Mufflers that is a Magnaflow dealer. They quoted me $430 plus tax/install for a Magnaflow full cat-back.

.......or to save money, you can get just the muffler or the axle back and have a muffler shop custom pipe from the cat to your new muffler. This is usually a way to save cash, yet it performs the same or sometimes better than a cat back system

I have to agree.. custom is the way to go.. pluse its a heluvalot Lighter... I have a 5zigen fireball midpipe (bacically catback with a diff muffler..) and its weighs a tonne... Custome will be light aluminized piping.. unless you have them do a stainless, which will weigh more..

as everyone else said tho, just changeing the muffler will only make you sound different/ louder... well you might see a few gains on the highway(topend) but not much.. Basically, if your gonna annoy your neighbours, might as well make it worth it, and go with the whole catback...

Does a full cat-back help the bottom end (low RPM)? Or are you going to lose more back pressure compared to axle-back and get even less power at the bottom end?

well i know the mugen twin loop exhaust and the dc twin cannister exhaust add backpressure, so they are good for low and high end power gains
