dc headers cracked

hey guys.. i was looking under my hood and noticed that my headers cracked... its cracked were the 4 into 1 goes... meaning were the 4 pipes end and conects and goes down 2 the cat... its before the o2 sensor.. so u can still see it from under the hood.. i seriuosly dont want to spend alot of money meaning i dont want to buy new headers is there somthing i could put on to fill in the crack.. and also they are ceramic coated DC headers... any advice on wat to put would be great THANKS!!

well iv never heard anything good about those headers.. too thin or something. you could use JB weld , canadian tire has it.. it wont be pretty though.

imported_blackhonda 31-Mar-2007 04:42 PM

yea but will the jb weld withstand the heat ?

imported_janz3n 31-Mar-2007 05:41 PM

yes
as long as you let it sit and dry as long as it says to.

imported_blackhonda 31-Mar-2007 06:04 PM

you think the crack will keep spreading until it totally breaks ?

NOOO dont do it......i did that and it stunk like sh!t for 3 days straight! windows open or not that sh!t gave me headaches.....and i let it sit for a full day and a half

only other way of fixing this is to weld it......grind the crack so you have a V formation then fill it by welding, i dunno if it will work if the metal is thin tho

to stop the crack from spreading, you have to drill small 'stress relief' holes at both ends of the crack. then have it welded and you'll be ok. just find a good welding shop with a TIG welder, a mig won't be good for this kinda weld.

i would just get better headers if i were you.

imported_blackhonda 31-Mar-2007 09:54 PM

if i get this welded by a shop its going to hurt my pocket and possibly cost more than the headers are worth... dont you think ?

bbarbulo 01-Apr-2007 11:21 AM

usually, it'll cost you about $60 to lay down a bead on that. can you buy a new header for $60?

dingus888 01-Apr-2007 11:32 AM

take it to welding shop they know what to do

imported_janz3n 01-Apr-2007 12:22 PM

im sure you can buy some used ebay headers for $60 lol

moto_spritz 01-Apr-2007 01:44 PM

same thing happened to me but mine cracked right under
where the stud would stick into, anyways,
i just took it to my auto class and welded it... meh...
it did the job, and that's all i cared about. no more
head aching exahust leak into the car

imported_blackhonda 01-Apr-2007 01:46 PM

were ur headers ceramic coated ???
