D16Z6 oil filter

I picked up an oil filter from honda (PN 15400-PLM-A02) and went under my car to change the filter and I find a Motomaster piece of crap on there (i dont know how the hell that go there) The problem is that the Honda filter is like half the size of the motomaster that is on there so do I have the right part? I dont want to take it off because if it is wrong nothing is open right now for me to get the proper filter. Thanks

well doing a little research it seems that the A02 is the new version made by Fram and apparently is not as good as the older A01 model. Now I hope that I can find an A01. This still doesnt explain the HUGE size difference from the motomaster.

Also found that running the s2000 filter is even better (PN 15400-PCX-004) has anyone tried this?

Here is a link to a 'test' of diffenent filters

as long as you get a decent oil filter, there all the same crap

and as for the "Motomaster" you probably got that at Jiffy Lube if you ever got your car oil changed there i'm pretty sure that's what they use

s2000 filter is supposed to be okay. yeah, I was stunned when I saw the new size of the Honda filter. I don't feel good running the new style, so I'll be switching to the HAMP filters or an S2000 filter. I need all the oil capacity I can get cuz my turbo is an oil bearing peice. this lil tiny turd of a filter will be going on my beater Civic.

I'm almost sure you can't get it at the dealer.

since you need one quickly, get one for an S2000

Which s2000 part (PN 15400-PCX-004??) because according to this site
http://www.preludeonline.com/printthread.php?t=172058
this s2000 filter is specifically designed for the s2000 and is not universal. Maybe I should just try to find an A01 or use this A02 piece of crap that I got from the dealer

15400-PCX-004 is correct. i don't have time to read the link. coles notes it for me y0

I really should be asking you what engine it's going on??? cuz the smaller filter has less press fluctuation at high RPM and should be perfectly safe to use.

here's the quote
"and it really hurts to break it to you guys, cuz i dont wanna admit it myself but the new 15400-PCX-004 for the s2000s available now are specifially designed for the s2000 . i really wish i could have used em cuz they are really good quality filters and cheap aswell. i guess honda doesnt care about the other cars. cant even offer us a good quality filter for more money or something?.... the reason we cant use this filter is because of the noticeablely stiffer bypass valve. the current honda s2000 filter (pcx004) has higher bypass valve tension meaning less bypass/higher oil pressure needed for the s2000 engine - clearly not an "all-purpose" design. if you think about it, the s2000 has a really high redline (~04 model 9000rpm, 04~ model has 8000k) which accounts for the stiffer bypass valve so its not safe for our cars."

it's for a d16z6

Z6 you can freely run the small one Honda gave you. Most Japanese race teams use the smaller filters cuz they found oil press is more stable. The S2K does use a higher bypass pressure, but all that means is that you are giving your engine filtered oil even at high rpm which is good in my books. Being a Z6, the larger S2K filter should be able to filter plenty of oil for the Z6 to use at high rpm. On the S2K at 2 liters and 9000 rpm it bypasses the filter cuz there just isn't enough capacity to keep up, but it should be plenty for the lil Z6.

well, i guess i'll try the small one that I got this time and them try the s2k next time and see if there is any benefit or not.

on a side note, if my car is slightly burning oil, will the increased pressure from the smaller filter affect that at all?

I say slightly because I dont have any smoke but there are black deposits in my exhaust and I usaully need to top up on oil.
Thanks for all the help

really it depends on where you're burning oil from. in most hondas, it can be valve seals or the oil control ring being carboned up.

try using some Seafoam in your oil and your cylinders to de-carbon and de-sludge the situation. I first used Seafoam on my Saturn which are notorious oil burners. It helped a lot.

increased pressure, we're not talking about like a 50% increase.... it's just a slight bump in pressure, I doubt it'll make much of a difference. My EF burns oil too, in minor quantities. I think it's great, it really adds a lil character.
