D16y7 engine

I just bought a 97 dx hatch and I want to make my D16y7 faster, but I don't want to swap an engine since I want a turbo setup. Can I buy the D-series turbo and boost the D16y7 engine..??
and is there anything else I got to change or swap..??
I got about $3000 to spend.
Any advice..??
If turbo is possible, which one should I get..?

yes it is possible to turbo your motor, bbarbulo is doing it to his d16y7
A d-series kit will fit your car
and as for what kind of turbo kit to buy, if u do alot of piecing together all your parts, you can do it for around 2000 dollars.

try turbod16.com

For around $3000 you definitely could put a pretty nice setup together and get it tuned properly. Are you planning on building up the engine internally or just wanna boost it stock?

Here is what i would do
-BMC Race log manifold
-T3 turbo off of ebay (rebuilt or new) internally gated
-450cc RC injectors
-HKS, greddy or TiAL Blow-off Valve
-JohnnyRacecar.com 6inch Intercooler
-2-2.5" aluminized steel IC piping
-2.5-3" Downpipe
-full 2.5-3" catback Exhaust from Kteller.com
-hondata or if your willing to do the tuning yourself you could look into uberdata.

im prolly missing something but thats how i would go. Tune it for 8psi to start and go from there.

Internal waste gate is triggered by a latch, that latch is a thin piece of metal stick and if that fails... not a pretty picture.

Go with a separate waste gate. Internal waste gate you would need a boost controler.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

to control boost you would need a boost controller either way. As far as the latch breaking i dont think its that common and its a pretty simple repair if it does.

External WG is better but also adds like $25US to the manifold atleast and then anotehr $215US for a TiAL WG.

if you build your turbo yourself, and buy parts from ebay and such
you can build yourself a REALLY nice kit AND get it dynotuned with uberdata or something for around $2000

And take that $1000 that you have left in your budget to buy my rims

But I am new into the turbo game, and I don't want to buy the wrong parts on ebay. Is there anywhere that you guys would recommend me to go to to get it installed with everything..?? I am just looking to boost the stock engine.

Any places recommended..?? My engine has about 20,000km now since it's the second engine put in to the car. Can this be boosted on stock..?? and would it kill my engine faster..?
