D16A vtec ??
 
Ok well today I went to tiger japanese to buy a D15B but for some reason I left with a D16A Vtec. The dude that worked there said it had 10hp more due to the larger amount of stroke and allthough he was asking 100 more for it I ended up only pitching another 20 $ (after a lot of hangling) to get it so I said why not.

now I did some research but I didn t really find out much. is it OBD 1 or OBD 2 ? also if nobody can tell me the answer how would I be able to tell by looking at the motor...

I m wishing now that I did just get the D15B but it too late to back track so info besides the usual flame would be great...

look at the plugs on the injectors or the plug(s) on the distributor. An obd1 dizzy will have 2 rectangle plugs on them whereas an obd2 dizzy will have 1 big rectangle plug. Obd1 injectors are different than obd2 injectors as well, the plug on them is different. An obd2 engine will have the CFK sensor on the oil pump, so if there is a plug on/near the oil pump its an obd2 engine.

well it has the same injector plugs and two normal size plugs on the dizzy so I m guessing its OBD 1 where is the oil pump... Its sad Im asking this cause Im gonna be installing this myself lol.

Does anybody know if this is indeed an upgrade from a D15b, not that I care as anything will be better then my old d15b7...

here are the facts

JDM well the timming belt cover is in japanese unlike my D15B7
D16A
fuel injected
OBD1
VTEC
AC and PS where equiped on it if that help define a time period. Post 199#

i had a d16a its just a jdm version of the d16z6 with slightly higher compression

D16a vtec came from the integras.
It's NOT like a D16z6.... in has a different camshaft, different compression, different bottom end.

It's basicly a JDM d15bvtec head on a non vtec D16a. With some other differences.

IMO no d series motor is like the JDM d15b vtec.... for a stock motor. ( Meaning bolt ons or mild boost ).

If your looking to build, Big BOOST, Built D16z6, Pistons rods, etc etc etc... And tranny wise, as much as ppl think Y8's are better etc, the si tranny is far superior! With ZC 2nd and 3rd gears :drivesafe
