Hey guys i need some help quickly i just bought this engine with the block number D16A??? never heard of it .. i've done alittle looking around and the only thing i could find was the 88-91 non vtec motor but heres the kicker its vtec(the one i have) the guys said it was from japan and i believe it it looks almost new can some one plz help me and tell me what i have????

how do you know it's vtec? Do you see the VTEC SOLENOID on the engine? Looks like a lil gold cylinder very close to the distributor.. Also was ECU were you given (if any) to run this engine?

Does it just say D16A or D16A6 or D16A1 or ???

It's probably the 88-91 Si motor with a 92-95 Si head (Vtec valve cover).

yes its got the vtec solinode and yea its got the vtec valve cover and i'm just putting a new motor in no ecu swap or anything like that and i thought it might be a 88 block and 92 head but then what kinda power do i have???

Im wondering if i can add to this thread, i have a 95 ZC SOHC VTEC and do not know too much info on it

d16a came in the ek5
well thats what the engine code was on the ek5 i saw around a year ago.
afaik its basically a japenese version of our d16y8

is there a fast idle valve? if no then its probably the motor im talking about, as no ek motor in North America had one, so i would assume it would be the same in JDMland.

thanx for the help but one final question if i buy an after market cam would i have to buy it for a d16y8??? or a d16z6 and how do i know for sure its the jap model d16y8
