d16 rod knock
 

hey guys i just started hearing rod knock about 2 days ago...

i have a built d16z6 on boost

i was wondering if i can get away with just changing the rod bearings or

theres no chance in hell and i need a new bottom end

Well in order to replace the bearings or the rods you need to remove your pistons.. anytime you remove your pistons your cylnderwalls need to be *glazed. You will neeed new rings and so on.

If your still driving with the knocking noise keep in mind if you spun a bearing and its a peice of free metal banging around in your block you risk causing damage to your cylinder walls. Which would mean a rebuild. Your better off buying a new block. Unless you want to rebuild the old one with some forged internals or better yet. Just stronger rods.

it may be piston slap. Search the difference between spun bearings and piston slap noises, they are slightly different (on most cases). if its piston slap, junk the block. If its a bearing, you could just replace the bearings, but i would measure your journal before doing so and check for scouring

well the motor was freshly built with eagle rods and arias pistons,

im pretty sure light detnation was the cause of my damaged bearings, bc it was out of tune when this happend,

im dont think i spun a bearing bc it runs absolutely fine but randomly i would hearing a knocking noise,

there is a slight metallic look in the oil which tells me its rods bearings,

also i made the mistake of using bs shiety AF rod bearings which i shouldnt have in the first place,

we'll find out what happend tomorrow

yep you pounded out your rod bearings. Forged pistons and rods can take a big beating so your bearings got hammered.

i'd stop driving the car and fix it asap, before you do some serious damage to the crankshafts bearing journals.

I don't know why people wanna honk on their car when its not tuned, i guess this was a lesson learned the hard way.
Sorry about your luck, but fix those bearings and tune that thing, i'm sure it'll be tonnes of fun and make awesome power.
