D16 Engine + ZC Tranny???
Hey guys. quick question. Does a trany from a ZC motor bolt on to a D16 without any issues?
Thanks. |
it should be fine yes... my friend has a ZC hooked up to an Si tranny so i'd assume they will work together
|
better idea is zc gears in an ex/si tranny (with ex/si final drive)
|
but then you have to rebuild.. .which i guess wouldn't be hard if you knew what you were doing....
|
Do you mean the SOHC ZC or DOHC ZC?
I know with the DOHC ZC you need new linkages and axles. (only reason I didnt do it) Also IF ya do the ZC tranny I hope ya dont drive on the highway, unless you like a super high rpm at 100km (i hear its at like 4500-5000 rpm at at 100km) Hybrid is the best if you can do it. |

OK Update. He wants to toss in Gears 3 & 4 into his D16 Tranny from a ZC one. I guess it's a DOHC ZC. I would just bolt on the ZC if he's looking for shorter gearing. But I assume he wants the cuising 5th gear.

the finaldrive on the zc is different so the 3rd and 4th will **** up the ratio's between all the gears....jsut get a zc tranny or si tranny...zc takes the d16a integra half shaft (if it dosent' come with one) and axles.....and rpm's at 100 km/h arent' that high they are jsut slightly higher than the si tranny....get the lsd..
|
ok
as long as the tranny is hyro and your car is hydro it will work the SI transmission is of better gearing ratio : 4.255 final vs 3.888 (ZC), but the zc has closer 1-5, so the best option is to install a SI final drive into the ZC tranny, If you use a ZC tranny you will need 90-93 axles, and the jackshaft MUST MUST be from the ZC get it from a japanese importer if you have to, OR option #2 is to transfer 1-5 gears from the zc tranny into the SI casing, but I have heard clearance problems with this... if you need anymore info on this I got both tranny's and can help you with any info you need.. |
with my stock si tranny at 100km/h im running 2900rpm's....
|
Guys. Thanks with all the valuable input. Learned alot on this. So did my friend. Don't know how he's gonna go about this.
|
dont get me wrong if you have the parts by all means use the zc tranny its great. one day you can swap the final and have a very nice geared tranny.

Guys check this out. Interesting page. Look at the bottom. I guess thats what he wants to do.

Hey guys Thanks a lot for all the info! It is about me that my friend Ouzo was asking all these !
So 3&4 gears do fit right in the Z6 tranny!!! Ok but is it a bolt on case or I have to make any other changes e.x drive axils Red90dx can you check this out?I believe that you have both trannys. |
from knowledge of the internals of a tranny... changing gears doesn't require new axles... how could it? all your changing is an internal part
|
ya but the zc tranny has a half shaft with equal length drive shafts which is different compared to the si tranny that is all....

if you use a zc tranny it needs to be hydro if your car is 92+
if you change to zc, you MUST have the jackshaft, and 90-93 axles |
