d15b vs. d16z6
Any owners of these engines? which is better? Does the extra 5hp make a difference?
d15b vs. d16z6 |
Id go for the D15B (Its mad tyte jdm y0). If my D16 ever goes on me, I will swap a D15B if I dont have enough money for a B series swap.
The difference IMO is so minor that I would also go with a D15 because its cheaper.
I usually see the d16z6 for a fair bit cheaper than the d15b.
Either way, you prolly wont notice the extra couple hp's. So buy whatever one you find for cheaper. |
i have a d16z i love it
D15b
i have a d15b, i felt a big difference over my stock non-vtec d15 but it wont be much different from d16. Generally, d15b's have lower mileage so i'd recommend a d15b.
D16Y8 y0 VteCCCCCCCCCCCC
d16y8 is obd2, if he is considering a d16z6 than most likely he has an eg obd1, so d16y8 wont work.
d15b is the way to go, it has bigger vtec lobes over the z6. louder and better vtec
omg d15b jdm tyte like mad yo....
d16z6, i've never seen a d15b built to produce more power than the d16z6. so that would leave me with the impression that the z6 has a higher potential. d16y8 WILL work, it's just a matter of getting a obd2-1 harness. |
Get whatever you find first and at a better price, I got my d15b for $300, if there was a low k z6 in front of me instead I would have taken that as well.
D15B trust me
I have the JDM D15B, notice the VTEC is louder than the z6... amazingly loud actually, even my mechanic thought it was weird...
I prefer the D15B for apparently a few more horsies, but really in the end it doesn't matter (oh boy a few more horses woopie doo)... if I could get the z6 with a lower mileage for cheaper price, I would have put that in... Get the cheaper one available... |
I have a D16Z6 in my eg right now, I/H/E, its a fun little motor but it just has far too high of KM's on it and has seen its day.
Next weekend I am swaping in a d15b. Got everything I needed for $800 from a seller here on TCC. As everyone says, it is just way harder to find a fresh D16z6 in our domestic market. They all usually have pretty hi Kms and the d15b for the money is usually has fewer k's on it for similar power. Not to mention, JDM YO hahaha. A very good friend has the D15 in his si coupe and swears by it, and yes the vtec is MUCH louder than in my d16. But on that note, I m still goign to keep my d and build it up over the summer and winter slowly..... this time next year I'll have a snail boosting that old girl. |

D15B, JDM! thats what i'm going for in the summer
Totally out there and kind of off coarse but... how bout for 800 a ZC (non-vtec) 135 hp and puts out more torque than a b16, use a 91 cx exaust manifold, go to wreckers pick up a turbo out of a talon, go to home dept pick up some piping spend the weekend and build a daily driven 12-13sec. car at 6psi!
they are both so similiar (interms of power output and overall design), I would just go with whatever you can find cheaper and with the least millage....
d16z6 man, more potential. bolt on a turbo kit and you'll be flying. everyone keeps saying d15b but don't have any facts to back up that it is a better motor other than the fact that most of them come with lower mileage or a mad jdm louder VTAK. they don't even know what the mileage is exactly unless they saw it coming out of the car. mileage means nothing on the motor, if the compression is good then the motor is good. you can have a 80,000km d15b that was horribly maintained that will be in worse condition than a 160,000km d16z6 that was properly maintained. all that less than 20,000km or w.e the importers tell you is bull****.
