Cylinder MisFire

I tried to start the car (97 DX) yesterday and it started kind of rough. Then seconds later the check engine light flashed several times and then it stayed on solid.

I plugged the reader in and I get the following 4 codes:

1. P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
2. P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
3. P1300 Random Misfire,P1300 Igniter Circuit Malfunction (***(May not be applicable for Honda / Acura)***)
4, P1399 Wait To Start Lamp Circuit (***(May not be applicable for Honda / Acura)***)

I pulled off the negative battery terminal to reset the ECU and the check engine light went away.

I started the car several times and it never came back on.

What could have caused this in the first place? What can I do to prevent it from happening again?

so you got a misfire.. first thing i would do is do a tune-up. But if you want to be cheap and only watn to spend a minimal.. check the resistance of your plug wires (shoudlnt be more than 7000 ohms per foot) if it is, throw them away. Lean conditions and weak spark cause misfire. Pull your plugs, see what they look like also

sounds like you need a new igniter. TO replace the igniter you need to rebuild or replace the distributor.

I can do either of those services for you if you require

You dont have to rebuild the dist to install an ignitor. this post is just a reminder to all of those who read posts to not belive everyting just because it is in print. To replace the ignitor, just remove the dist. the cap and the rotor and cover, its right there with two screws. Anways, usually the tach will go funny if the ignitor fails chris is right, the tune up parts are where I start when it comes to misfire codes. Injectors as well could be a problem. Remember because you have more than one misfire code that means it is probably somthing that will operate all cylenders, coil, ignitor cap or rotor.
